Accepted and most likely attending UNLV SDM this Fall! Just a few questions though:

How do you guys like the trimesters? Do they stretch out a normal dental school curriculum over 3 semesters so its less of a load at a time, or is it actually more classes?

The handout they gave us shows a schedule of about 8-3 on weekdays (8-12 on friday), so is the typical day only 8-3 instead of 8-5 like many schools?

How many classes can we expect to be juggling at one time?

As for housing, I think I want to purchase something with a 100k max but around the 80k mark. Is the area within 5 miles of the school a bad neighborhood? I found some newer construction homes within 1-3 miles at a good price, but not sure about the neighborhood. Any recommendation on where I can get the best bang for my buck but within a 15 minute commute?

Thank in advance!

I'm a current at SDM. Most students live in Henderson or Summerlin. Right around the school is ghetto, so most people don't live around there. As far as school load, your 8-3 schedule is only your first semester, after that it goes to 8-5. You need to finish early that first semester because you're taking so many classes. Congratulations on your admission. Now the real fun beginning.

thanks for the info! Do you know the names of any decent apartment complexes that some students live in? I've heard some people live at Camden del Mar. Any others off hand that you know of?

Camden del Mar is in a good area... I prefer to live in summerlin over henderson.... I like to live west of buffalo...and I wont live north of west charleston or south of flamingo... If youre looking to rent go on craigslist and search by the new map view to find places in the area you want... You can find great deals renting from owners renting their places...For what you pay for an apartment you can get a townhouse with a garage with nicer floors and counters for the same or better price (ive negotiated every place i lived the past 3 years down from their asking price)... its a renter market out here
