Any idea why the following cornea fellowships are unmatched? UC Davis with Mark Mannis, Omaha with Mark Johnston, NJ with Dr Perl and Ottawa with Kashif Baig ?

Curious to know why these fellowships are unmatched. Is there training substandard? Would be grateful for any info on the training at these units.

UC Davis is a good, prestigious fellowship. They have 2 spots, so one of them must have not filled just by pure chance. For example, if everyone ranked UC-Davis #2 on their rank lists, but matched at their #1 spot, then the UC-Davis spot would go unmatched even though it is a desirable fellowship spot.

I would "trade up" for this UC Davis spot, but sadly they did not interview me 🙁

UC Davis has only one spot. High volume, prestigeous fellowship with awesome faculty. I have no idea why it did not get filled: they only interviewed 10-11 applicants and maybe all of them went to their #1 spot....never happened before. At this point they are interviewing, someone will be very lucky to grab this spot outside the match.
