54 unfilled, all of which were taken in the scramble or early post-scramble.

Well based on the nrmp data-there is about 0.6 applicants for each psych slot in the U.S-so I cannot imagine any students not matching since there are nearly 2 times as many slots as applicants for each slot.

So essentially everyone that applied to Psych was able to find a spot somewhere?

THanks!

No, virtually all US allopathic seniors were able to get a spot, but plenty of independent applicants went unmatched. There were 0.66 US Seniors applying for each position through the match and 0.56 independent applicants.

See for yourself at http://www.nrmp.org/matchoutcomes.pdf on page 52.

That does not make much sense-0.56 apps/slot would be evey better odds than US apps-that means there is virtually double slots /applicant for "indept" which I assume means IMGs?

The 0.56 are in addition to the 0.66. There are 1.22 total applicants in the match for each available psych position. Look at the bar graphs in the pdf.

Applicants who are not seniors in a U.S. LCME-accredited allopathic medical school may participate in the NRMP Match as independent applicants if they meet certain criteria.

Six types of independent applicants may participate in the NRMP Main Match:

Previous graduate of a U.S. medical school (someone who graduated earlier than September 1 in the year before the match)

Student/graduate of a U.S. osteopathic medical school

Student/graduate of a Canadian medical school

Student/graduate of a Fifth Pathway program

U.S. citizen student/graduate of an international medical school

Non-U.S. citizen (including permanent residents) student/graduate of an international medical school.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Adam. I just wanted to know if there was a number who went unmatched eg. 8 people who applied did not match even after the scramble.
Thanks

67 unmatched US seniors after match, 54 unfilled positions - sounds like 13 US seniors without a position after scramble. Of course some US seniors could rank psych as a safety, and that would inflate the "unmatched" number.

What's this business about ranking psych as a safety? You can't rank two specialties, can you? Won't one or both find out and ruin your day?

Wow,
Thats great! That makes sense. I'm sure that more than 13 used it as a backup. I dont know why more people dont want to go into psych but regardless. Better for me.

thanks for the feedback.
