So, is anybody else freaking out about the acceptances coming out this week? If I remember correctly, they make their first round decisions on acceptances Dec 15th. I just hope I get the big packet and not the thin thin thin envelope.

I have been counting down the days man. I even scoured the forums from the last 2 years, and each year they met on the 15th, but I dont think it was a weekend before. I also read that the adcom meets thursdays, so they may have actually met today.

Anyone know how they inform people of their acceptance? I've heard some schools call you...Having never had an acceptance I don't know. Any insight is appreciated.

They told me that they inform all applicants via snail mail, old school. They do have a status checker page, but im not sure if they'll post a decision on there, or maybe it will simply read "decision".

When did you guys interview at UNMC? I was there on 11/09; just wondering if they would make a decision on that group in December or not until January.

I interviewed on 11/9 too. They have a semi non-rolling admissions, and they pull files using a lottery system for review. Ive heard that they tend to make decisions on OOS applicants first though, but I dont know how true that is. Other than that, we may be in admissions limbo until march.

I called the admissions office and asked politely "I know that you guys are extremely busy this time of year, but have you sent out any acceptance letters for 2008 yet that aren't early decision?" and the reply was "Oh, it should be any day now. Just did them." That was Friday afternoon. I didn't get anything from them today and I live about 4 miles from the school. Anybody else hear anything?

Nothing yet. Are these snail mail or email? I interviewed Oct 19th and am OOS as well so who knows.

Nothing yet for me either. I interviewed on 10/5. hmm......??

Bump for update.

i got my snail mail acceptance (OOS) the 14th. the letter was dated the 13th, but i don't live too far away. i interviewed early october, can't exactly remember the date. i'm pretty excited because i was really impressed by the school.

Did you get your fall grades in early (or at all)?

i did not send a grade update for the fall (my fall grades aren't out yet). and i just checked my status online and it doesn't say anything, so i wouldn't bother checking that. mule, pm me and i'll give you my stats. good luck everyone.

Still no word. This is driving me nuts.

i called today and the woman was like "we dont review files based on interview date, so it could be march by the time you hear back about a decision." and i was like oh um, okay. so then i asked if there was any way to know if a decision on my file had been made yet and she said "no." and that was the end of the conversation. i interviewed early october...

last year the adcom met every thursday, anyone living near UNMC get some good news today??

I live really close to UNMC, interviewed in October, and have yet to hear anything... I go to school out of state, so I had my mail from there forwarded to my home address. I feel like nobody from in-state regular decision has heard yet though, which gives me a little piece of mind...

I live just across town and have yet to hear anything. None of the other applicants that I know have heard anything either. Keep your fingers crossed! For consolation, I'm gonna head downtown now and meet up with my friend Jose and his brother Bacardi.

why is it taking longer this year for letters to get out? i interviewed in october and still havent heard. werent letters supposed to go out Dec. 15th?

Yes, they were. Unfortunately, they have not come out yet and with the holidays, we probably will not hear anything until a week or so into January. I personally have nervously approached the mailbox enough. If I get the letter, I get the letter. If I don't, life will go on.

They have come out -- I got the big envelope last Friday in the mail. I'm IS, though, so they may not have sent out OOS yet.

elfish-

what were your stats if you don't mind sharing, and when did you interview?

I got the acceptance envelope yesterday (12/24). I'm OOS, but went to a small undergrad college in Nebraska. I interviewed on 11/9 and stats are 35/~3.8

Someone had posted something about UNMC reviewing files using a "lottery system." What exactly does this mean? Just that they pull files with no rhyme or reason?

that's what the woman in the admissions office told me when i called. she just said that they don't go in order of interview date (which is true since the kid above me interviewed 11/9 and i interviewed 10/5) and just pull a few random files. also at the interview i believe gigi mentioned to not worry if you don't hear back, and she said something about how some people who interview in the fall might not hear back till march!

Interviewed 10/19 still no word. Come on UNMC I want to be a doctor.

I wish I could show them how in love with their school I am without being a creeper

aww, i would gladly give you my acceptance if i could!

just out of curiosity, why do you love it so much? to be honest with you, i was expecting a lot more and was disappointed with my interview day experience.

I grew up in omaha, and moved oos when I was 12. When I went back for the interview it reminded me of how much nicer people are in the midwest. I had a cabbie turn me down for a ride at the airport and walk me over to a free shuttle! The medical school itself just seemed really well put together. I talked with a few nice ladies presenting a teaching mannequin and how they were going to integrate code drills with nursing students to make it more realistic. They were in love with the new education building too, which opens fall 08. Now, about that acceptance...

I would have to agree other than the occasional mall massacre the midwest is a great place to be. And I thought that UNMC was a great school.

My bro is a resident at UNMC and the dean actually wanted me to visit their school, though when I went, she wasn't there. Talked to him a few weeks later and it turns out she really just wanted to show me around. I walked around the campus while I was there and it's really nice!

I even got a glimpse into M3 & M4 years and you'll see there are some great faculty willing to teach the students. Just, try not to get on their bad side! Some have tempers! 😛

Bump for updates.

Still nothing. If you all live in Omaha or close, when we all get in (which I'm sure we will 😀), we need to get together for food or drinks and get to know our future classmates. I know we could all use it.

Sh** if I get in Ill fly back and buy everyone drinks all night, itd be worth the credit card debt

I'm going to have to join in on this thread if free drinks are getting thrown in! Does anybody know if the adcomm met last week or will be metting this week? My mailman is starting to get a little scared of me. 😀 Is it true they meet every Thursday or is that just a rumor?

I thought about flirting mailwoman to get her to stop by at my apt complex earlier in the day, but my game is pretty shameful these days. I looked through the forums for the last couple years of unmc applicants and the previous posters agreed it was every thursday.

Would anyone consider writing a letter of intent/interest to UNMC or is it too early? I interviewed back in October, though apparently interview date doesn't have much to do with it. I just really want to go there! I had written my interviewer a thank you note after my interview. Thanks!

BUMP. Hey that's my first post ever! I'll have to drive out to Omaha for this acceptance party...hopefully...I check my mail even on Sundays for the big package!

I would ride a tricycle to omaha if it meant I would have a big envelope from them in my mailbox this sunday.

Anybody get anything back this weekend?

anyone hear anything today...? I did not.

Still nothing. Checked the mail today, but alas... just a bill. Two actually, one of them telling me my electric is going up another $20 a month due to higher supply costs. Bummer. Did I mention that I still haven't heard anything?

Nothing here so far. I wonder why they use a lottery system instead of just going alphabetically. It would still give them unrelated applicants for each meeting but give applicants an idea of when they will be reviewed. And somebody reminded me that this is a leap year, Feb 29th just one more a**hole day before march 15 (when everyone will know where they stand)
