UNMC students... please help!

Hello Future UNMC classmates! I was recently accepted for transfer into the third year at UNMC and would like some info. They just sent me my rotations schedule:
OB/GYN-Dr. Tammi Erickson
Psych-Dr. Betsy Porter
IM- Dr. Sheila Rosenberg
Surg- Dr. Jill Ramsdell
Peds- Dr. Gary Beck
FP- Dr. Barbara Goodman

Since I am coming into a new place, I would appreciate any feedback that might help me out with these attendings, or anything else that you can think of that would help my transition.

Hey, I'm just finishing my third year at UNMC. Personally, I've enjoyed the year (except for OB <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> ).

OB/GYN: Hard to say whether it's better at Methodist or UNMC. OB at Methodist is much more stressful, whereas GYN at UNMC is much more stressful. In all, it's a poorly organized, hectic, crazy rotation. Of course, we've had some problems with the chair and lots of faculty leaving, etc. Maybe things will settle down soon.

Psych: Just started it yesterday. Seems very friendly and well-organized. It should be a good experience.

IM: I had a blast! FOR SURE, take Rheumatology as your three-week selective (good hours and you actually LEARN!). The three weeks on outpatient is mind-numbingly boring, but you'll get through it. Choose the VA for your inpatient service. Trust me. It will help when it comes to Dr. Meyer's class. (You'll see what I mean.)

Surgery: Make sure you rank plastics high on your list if you actually want to learn how to sew. These guys are great teachers, and you'll do a TON! Do NOT sign up for transplant unless you want to round all day long and NEVER get to see any OR time. I hear that Methodist is good for general surgery. They actually let you do stuff.

Peds: Stay on UNMC campus. You'll get a more diverse experience, and you'll appreciate being around other M3s, as opposing to being stuck in some random small town. A very well-organized and fun rotation.

Family: You'll most likely be shipping out to a small town for eight weeks. You'll also have to write a paper that's a HUGE pain in the ass, but eh, it's over before you know it. Take this opportunity to do and see as much as possible. They'll often let you do some OB and minor surgery stuff with them.

It's a good school! I'm glad I'm here. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the insight Fanconi! I spent about a half hour today talking to one of the surg residents that I know here who graduated from UNMC. He said a lot of the same that you did. I am very excited to be heading out there. Any other insight out there? I'll be moving out to Omaha June 17th or 18th and would love to have a beer (I always liked the Cresent Moon) and get to know some people!

Fanconi (or anyone else), what kind of text did you use during your rotations? I was thinking about picking up blueprints and NMS books for the core stuff... or do certain attending required that you read certain text books? Will these prepare you enough for the block exams? How is the parking at UNMC for 3rd year students... and where is it?
