Has anyone experienced unprofessionalism from interviewers? I have heard stories where adcoms would ask a student to dance or sing- which is completely irrelevant to deciding a student is a good fit for a school. I don’t understand what makes them think they could demoralize hopeful applicants by abusing their powers.

My interviewer at a certain school which I’ll leave anonymous never made eye contact, didn’t speak to me for a solid minute when I sat down despite my multiple attempts to strike up a conversation. All he did was sit there read my app, ignore me, and finally when he was done he said you should get in, got up and walked out. 3 months later, rejection. It was really rude honestly, left a bad taste for the school IMO.

I wouldn't classify this as unprofessional, but I had one interviewer essentially roast me for 60 minutes. He/she directly highlighted the weakest points of my app and played devil's advocate to every response I gave. It was such a stressful interview. Fortunately I was accepted, but the interview put a bad taste in my mouth.

There's no point in outing the school because that could've been just an isolated incident. To give the entire school a bad reputation for actions of one interviewer isn't fair imo.

Why do you think this was? Was it a common thing with interview, or were there some real red flags that you kinda expected would be talked about?

I don't see anything wrong with that. They are just holding your feet to the fire.

The person also asked me some very difficult questions about the dental field, and there was absolutely no way I could’ve been expected to know the answers to those questions. Again, I never said it was unprofessional, but it was definitely a difficult interview.

Why do you think this was? Was it a common thing with interview, or were there some real red flags that you kinda expected would be talked about?

This was the only interviewer to do this to me. All my other interviews were extremely pleasant. I wouldn’t say I had any red flags on my application at all. I guess the interviewer just wanted to see how I would perform under stress? Who knows - in the end he told me I’d be a good fit for the class, so it wasn’t anything personal.

I have classmates who experienced unprofessional behavior and questions from interviewers first hand. Thankfully they all were accepted at more than one school.

wut? honestly i don't want to come off as condescending but don't worry about the small stuff and things you can't control. Right now you should be trying to submit your app asap/study for the DAT.

Yeah you really shouldn’t worry about it. It’s pretty rare to get someone who’s just blatantly unprofessional. Unfortunately I got unlucky. I ended up actually emailing the school and told them of my negative interview experience.

I had an interviewer that was texting and using his phone under the table during one of my interviews last fall. It was a 2-on-1 interview so the other interviewer was asking most of the questions while the first one was paying attention to his phone. And when the he finally asked me a question, it was a question the other one had already asked! Just threw me off a little the first 10 minutes but then I put my focus on the interviewer that was paying attention to me

The only context that this makes sense for me is if the student had highlighted some kind of arts background on the their resume. Still pretty weird though.

All of my interviewers, including the students, were professional and friendly. I would not be worried about it because it is beyond your control.

I had a student interviewer start asking me questions in the elevator (with other people in it) before we got to the actual interview room. It caught me so off guard.

This is an entertaining thread! I've personally haven't experienced any bad interviews. All of them were enjoyable and down to earth.

I only struggled with my first interview, as I was not as prepared and it being the first interview ever.
