Unregistered Dental Assistant

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes they can in CA. I am not an RDA and assist during restoratives and take xrays. If your work longer than 3 mos, you need to take a course on infection control. A CA xray license can be obtained in a weekend course. I found all the info I needed when I began my job on the CDA website. Good luck!

Are unregistered dental assistants allowed to perform suction in California or does anyone know where I can find this information?

Thanks

Thanks for your response.

The reason I ask is because, while working for my dentist last summer, I performed suction and I wanted to make sure I was in the clear to disclose it. I worked for there for 7 months and never took an infection control class or the California Dental Practice Act class mentioned on http://www.cda.org/popup/new_dental_assisting_duties_and_standards_in_2010 😱. My dentist never mentioned either to me. I should have been proactive and done my homework but I didn't. Do you think this will be a problem for me?
