FWIW I got a $650K job in Nowheresville in 2010 seven years out from residency.

Rad onc salaries are so stagnant that if we keep on this trajectory in about a hundred years you will make more money being, like, a fast food worker than a rad onc. (Exaggerating, but not much.) In the meantime I am really envious of these plastic surgery guys on Instagram advertising $250K per facelift.

The “9200 patients a year” comes more clearly into focus now

Rad oncs with professional service contracts have no bargaining position once admin realizes they can skim some of that professional by hiring someone … I mean the guy got “fired” for being two days late on an email reply. Turns into an Eric Bernian “Games People Play” transactional analysis (Now I’ve Got You You SOB variant) with the hospital as parent and rad onc as child. I’m reading between the lines that his new consult numbers fell over the years and his revenue generation ability fell since the IMRT heyday era. Rock the boat and be the squeaky wheel at your own peril!

The hospital recently lost a very similar lawsuit to the tune of $10M. I would be willing to bet in California's legal climate they will lose this one as well.

Still, at the end of the day, a costal California job so there is that.

Which it sounds like he squandered due to his “conscience.” For rad oncs circa 2026 trying to decide between a job and their conscience, screw your conscience to the sticking place as Shakespeare would say.

Seeing $2600 per day offers for busier locums jobs (consults, many pts under the beam)

I would just contact that center directly and work something out. I’m sure you could get 3-3500/day without a middleman. Seems like they have a need for a somewhat permanent locum vacation coverage position where they might even be willing to cover malpractice

We got a real problem if places like Turlock are considered "Nowheresville"

You mean the second-largest city in Stanislaus County, after Modesto!?

Turlock? I mean it is the 119th most populous city in California. How could I have never heard of it before?!
