I know a few rad oncs. Don't ask rad oncs about Athens. Don't ask rad oncs about New Orleans either. Or SF.
Oh, I just meant I have not heard a town described like that. Am very curious now. Isn't that where Dave Matthews Band from? For the younger ones, he was a musician that made upper and upper middle class white and white adjacent people very happy in the 90s and 00s. Me included.

Athens is a great little town, UGA, college town, etc. Very close to ATL. They had a long serving rad onc guy there who was well respected. Ron Terry I think his name was. Pretty much him and another not as busy guy there for decades. The busy guy retired within last 10 years or so. Used to be stable rad onc situation. Got shakier over time

Athens is where UGA is. College town through and through. Widespread is indeed from Athens. Since we're in a southern rock/jam band convo, a more recent band named Underground Springhouse also from Athens. As is Drive By Truckers. Worth a listen, if a fan of the genre.

Interesting, I want to look at their methods later. I would be very curious to compare them to the work being done in Canada, acknowledging different markets

Great share, this is fascinating. They have a relatively high baseline number of rad oncs and they also explain that they assume supply/demand are in balance for all fields at baseline.
They have state level data for Rad Onc. My state is over supplied right now (110%) and wont be under 100% until 2031!
Damn there’s about 6000 rad oncs NOW haha.

The conspicuous thing to me, being a numbers guy, about this ad where you’ll be the sole rad onc for 5 med oncs and get 800 new patients a year
Is that this job puts the rad onc in the top 0.1% of new starts per year per rad onc
The quoted salary is not in the top 0.1%

What's interesting to me is that the ASTRO job board is considerably worse than other job boards. Marit Health, which isn't even rad onc specific, does a much better aggregating actual rad onc jobs and ignoring the RT, physics, and radiologist jobs. They really need to find a way to filter the ASTRO job board better by what degree/specialty you need. I shouldn't be sifting through gyn onc and heme onc positions or research assistant positions.

Its has been that way for 10 years plus. It would be great if one could just easily get a list of physician rad onc positions. Seems like a beyond basic thing for astro to tackle but alas.
