HI am currently at a C.C. in liberal arts-science concentration, I work full time, and I am a mom.
My C.C. does not offer any pre-medical or post-bacc. programs so that's why I choose the science concentration.
But, I just don't know where to go after that. I don't know if I am in the right track in order to apply later on to Medical School.
But, I can not afford to quit my job, or pay a expensive 4 year College and study full-time.
Can somebody please tell me what should I DO? PLEASE.

You will need a bachelor's degree to apply to medical school, so you will likely have to transfer to a 4 year institution in order to complete it, as well as to show admissions committees that you are capable of doing well not only at community college.

Any major is fine - it does not have to be pre-med. You will need a year of general chemistry + lab, a year of organic chemistry + lab, a year of biology + lab, a year of physics, and maybe statistics and biochemistry. There are some other requirements for some schools, but those are the major ones.

It would help if we knew a little bit more about you - age, life situation, current job, family resources etc. 🙂

There is plenty of financial help to pay the expenses of a university. You'll only need another 30 to 40 hours once you finish the CC work. Look into the transfer programs at the CC.

First of all, thank you so much for such great insights!
I don't really like to share personal info through this website since everyone else can read it or relate to me. So hope you do not mind.🙂
I am 21, I have an only child and live with my boyfriend.
The fact is that working full-time has become essential to me and my bf in order to pay living and child expeses.
As you have noticed by the way I write: I am a foreigner which really complicates this whole mess.
My concern is more about my Liberal Arts-Science Concentration program which pretty much requires chemistry, physics, biology, and other science courses that are required for Medical School and that I will have to retake in my premed program if I transfer to a 4 years College.
After I get this liberal arts program done, I can transfer to a pre-med program or post-bacc according to my CC. but i don't kow if that is enough for medical school requirements, I don't know if I still need to get a B.S. program done which is going to take me more time. . . to get things done.
So idk if doing the liberal arts science (part-time) and then premed or post-bacc. is enough. what do you think?

as others have said, you have to have a bachelor's degree to get into med school. your degree does not have to be in science. in can be in underwater basket weaving as long as you have your prereqs done. so get your stuff done and pick something. man respectable universities offer online degrees anymore. do that if you need to.

you don't have to be labeled "pre-med" in order to take med school prerequisites. Just take them. And you can do it at a community college. it may keep you out of certain schools, but not enough to make it a strain. just make sure you can tranfer it over. then you are fine.

go part time. yes it will take longer, but that is some of the sacrifices we make. I have 3 kids, a homemaker wife, a full time job, and class. Sure I am not taking 18 credits a semester. Or 15. Or even 9 for that matter. But I don't have any other choice. I will keep plugging away no matter where it takes me.

You can probably do prepharmacy solely at a community college which is probably a more mommy friendly route too. Just throwing that in there. Not trying to change your dreams.

I am not interest in Prepharmacy, or any other mommy friendly route either. I think it is good to know that there are options out there such as: PA, RN, NP, and much more. But, I have already taken a decision!
I clearly understand that I can earned a bachelors in whatever thing I want, but I am more focus on Science! since I need to improve my skills in order to do good in my first years of Med. School later on. 😀

Well, then to answer your question you won't get a bachelor's degree at a community college.

You are on the right track only to the extent that your CC hours will transfer to a 4 year institution. As others have said, the bachelors at a 4 year school is required. No science major or premed label is needed but you will need:

2 semesters Chemistry w/ lab (8 hours)
same for Biology, Physics and Organic Chemistry.

Some schools may require Biochemistry or Genetics, but I would advise focusing on just the core 32 science hours.

You will need to get A's in your classes, especially science. I would shoot for a GPA of 3.6 or better.

If you are really committed, borrow the money. You'll get it on the back end (maybe not as good as was possible in the past, but it will be worth it).

Obviously, you won't have a post-bacc at the community college. You do need a number of science courses to apply. You can't afford to quit your job or pay for tuition at a university so it seems you're not planning on going to a university thus you won't finish premed that way. Otherwise, yes, you are on the right track, but it will be terminal. Get it?

I will tranfer once I am done with this! So I really need to make a hard decision soon at some point!
