at the UNT Health Sciences Center In Fort Worth....
Anyone applying? been through the program? currently in the program?

I'm currently awaiting my fate! 😉

do what now? 😕 😕 😕

Hi DockW! 🙂

I haven't received my confirmation yet... I will be hand delivering my statement and essays on the last day they are due (horrible don't you think? lol). Everything else has been sent but since I was going to go up there anyway to check things out, I didn't think it would be a big deal.

Would you mind to share your stats? Have you applied to medical school before? Feel free to PM me- I'd love to chat w/ you! 🙂 😀 🙂

Oh. . .that isn't horrible. . .I just FedExed mine today! 🙂 I had the application, LORs, and transcripts ready, but I kept on agonizing over my essays. Hopefully they are alright! 😱

I haven't applied to medical school, first time will be this summer. After not doing so hot on the MCAT, I decided to wait before I applied. I've just been working full-time since graduation this past May, and plan to retake the MCAT this April.

A girl from my univ is in the program now, and that's been my 'source' about the program. Now the wait begins. . .

I sent all of my stuff to UNT this past Wednesday by certified mail...only 3 bucks and on Friday I got a confirmation from the school that they had recieved my completed(thank God, thought I they might find something I had overlooked) application and that it is being processed. Good luck to all!!

Hey Sparkles. . .

How was it when you visited TCOM on Friday?

I got a e-mail stating that they are missing a recommendation. . .my professor forgot to send it! I made a desperate call to her as soon as I received the message, and she said she was swamped with her research, but would put it in the mail, hopefully everything will be alright. :scared:

Hi Hussain, nice to meet you!

Hi again DocKW! Everything went well on my visit to UNT, thanks for asking! Have you ever been to the campus?? Everything seemed so new and it was just a very pleasant place to visit. Also, they had one of the residency days where all these different places set up tables and the med students went around and got info about all the different residency programs. It was pretty cool, I actually walked around a bit and pretended to belong there. LOL.

Only thing is they said that one of my transcripts was missing. However, the check that I used to pay the transcript fee with had already cleared. I'm just hoping I didn't put the wrong address or something. Maybe they wait until the check clears before they mail the transcript? 😕 Who knows....

I'm really excited to find out about the program. Only problem is that if I am not accepted into the program, I will be absolutely devestated. 🙁

:luck: Good luck all and keep me posted!! Its nice to hear from ppl who are going through the same thing I am! 🙂

Hey Hussein! 🙂

So. . .what made everyone apply to the program? I think the fact that we can get exposure to medical school coursework is good, and if you keep the 3.5, you know you'll be attending somewhere for med school in Fall 2006!

Sparkles, I feel you about not being accepted. . .we just have to keep our fingers crossed! Hope they get your transcript!

Good luck to y'all both! :luck:

Hey you all never mentioned your stats.... Did you take the MCAT or the GRE? or both? How did you do? 🙂

Well, I'm finally being processed. . .

I took the MCAT 2 years ago, but I'm taking again in 2 weeks! Did y'all submit MCAT scores, too?

So. . .does anyone know if they will let us know before May 15th? They said in the e-mail ' We will notify you when a decision has been made regarding admission.' Ohhhh, the suspense!

Hey again DockW! 😀
I took the MCAT in April 2003 and my score was a 24-N.
I submitted both my MCAT and GRE scores.

As for when we will learn "our fates".... I was told by two different admissions people that we would be notified "by May 1st" so...... it could be less than one month away! yeeeeaaaa!!!!! 😀

oh yeah BTW-

they told me on Tuesday:
"We received your final transcript in today's mail. Your file is now complete and being processed. We will notify you when a decision has been made regarding admission."

yeeeaaa! 🙂

I talked to the grad school admissions office, and the lady I spoke with said there are about 75 applicants for 25 spots.

Are you applying too Shannon? 🙂

75 for 25... hmmm.... 1 in 3 odds if only by pure chance.

Gosh I want in this program so bad I can't stand it!!!

1 week down. . .3 more weeks to go 'til we hear something 😱

Good luck everyone! :luck:

Let's say that the worst case scenario becomes necessary - i.e. you don't get into TCOM and/or any other med. school because you tank your GPA for whatever reason.....

Does anyone know if you can enter another program instead of the clinical research that is mentioned? I've heard that UNT has one of the only graduate level forensics programs in the country. That might be interesting in this scenario.

Also, suppose you don't carry the 3.5. Does anyone know the chances of getting into medical school elsewhere?

Hi Dave! I was actually kind of thinking the same thing regarding admission... If I don't get into this program of course I would still LOVE to go to school there in another program or even as a non-degree student. Are you applying right now too?

Not sure about the chances of admission if you don't get the 3.5.

Yes. When should we hear from the admissions office re: admissions to the pre-med certification program? I was told decisions will be made by 15 May. That puts them 2 weeks after the TMDSAS medical school application opens on 1 May (assuming it's like last year).

I plan on having early decisioned TCOM by then.

yeah, I applied. However, I'm also considering a master's program at another institution as a back-up. I have average mcat, way above average gre, good overall gpa, and sucky science gpa. We'll see.

Shannon- Where is your backup?

I currently do not have backups *eek*😱 but does anyone know if the school will let you be a non-degree student or enter into another program if not accepted into the post-bacc program?

I was accepted to UT's MPH. It's in the medical center - I'm currently working on finding housing and a job. I know the original date for UNT was May 15, but when I talked to them last week, she said May 1.

Wow! Congrats on the MPH program. So its in Ft. Worth?

Nope, UT does all of their health sciences in Houston.

I was just wandering if anyone heard anything yet from UNT. I know it still early. So do any take the MCAT on saturday? That sucker was a beast :scared:

I haven't heard anything yet, but there is a good chance that we will hear something before May 1.

You think we'll hear something by May 1st? I hope so! The suspense is killing me. Plus May 1st is only TEN DAYS AWAY.

FYI- I haven't heard anything either. Nada! 😀
Trust me, you all will know when I hear something, and I hope the rest of you will share as well! 😀

Hi All,
I'm glad to hear you all are so enthusiastic about this program as much as I am, but unfortunately, not all of us will get in. I'm so scare now... Will we really know on May 1st?
I guess things are out of our hands, and there is nothing left to do but wait...Time like this...I naturally sit here and reflex on my mistakes, I wish I can stop doing that.
You know what's funny tho, I applied to this program last year. And, my school decided to send my transcript to the wrong department, and so I was disqualified before the selection. This time around, I wonder what they will think of me.
Aw well, what can I do? Good luck to you all.

I just got a call for the admissions dept. and they told me I was accepted 😀 , I am so stoked right I dont know what to do. They said I would get a letter in the mail in the next couple of weeks. But right now I am just so happy. Anyway good luck to everyone else. I hope everything goes well. 🙂

WOW, what a day....
50 minutes ago, I posted my concern about the program, and now, i'm IN!
WOW WOW WOW. I'm happy, and I will take this opportunity to make a doctor out of myself. Good luck to everyone else!

I got the call today too!!! 😀 This is a great day because life has been difficult since February 1, 2005 when my hope took a beating by a "No Match" posting. Since that time, I have been placed on a few waiting lists which has raised my hopes somewhat, but it feels great to know that becoming a doctor is now a matter of my own hard work rather than the luck of the draw. Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

I have a message on my answering machine from the admissions department. . .I'm hoping that it's the same good news that everyone else has received. I'm definitely calling them right at 8am tomorrow morning! 🙂

They called my home number, but my answering machine was full. Fortunately, txnontrad gave my cell and work number to Carla. If he hadn't given her the number, I still wouldn't know that I'm in!! Congratulations to everyone else who got the call.

I'M IN!

Just called Carla back and got the good news. I'm sooo happee! 🙂

Congrats to everyone else who got accepted!

For those familiar with the area, what are some good places to live?

Ft. Worth is pretty small, so, I don't think we will have that many choices. I'ma find a place near campus, that's all I have in mind.
Now, I got a question that maybe you can help me with. What about financial aid? can we or will we have to go through FAFSA still? I haven't had a chance to asked Carla Lee yet, have anyone else asked?

I'm in also. Got the email this morning.

Anyone have an idea about financial aid at this point?

I didn't get in. 🙁

I do not know what is going on here, BUT apparently if you did not recieve a phone call, it does not neccessarily mean that you did not get accepted. I just talk to the admissions office and they told me that they had started to call people over the phone and tell them that they were accepted, but for some reason they then decided to stop call calling people. They did tell me that all decisions had been made. So I do not know what to make of the situation, and whether or not all of those people who were accepted have all ready been informed.

hmmm. . .interesting. I wonder why they stopped calling people.

Hi all,
So, would you still retake your MCAT this august knowing that you are going to this program?

I applied also. I haven't recieved a call though. 🙁 I hope I do. Did anyone apply to other post-baccs :luck: ? Congrats to everyone, though.

I still haven't received a call.... and I'm really really upset about it. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Does anyone know if there is any kind of waitlist or anything??? 😕

Depends on how I scored on my original MCAT. Personally, I'm considering retaking just because I know that I can do better and refuse to accept less than optimal performance out of myself. Nice way of saying I can do better. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the two months required to work my way back through physics (it's been 20 years since I've taken that course) and then the two months prep time on top of that. I did find that since I've completed my last two sections of biology I was able to answer more questions correctly off the top of my head on practice exams. It might mean an extra point or two in the bio section.

You have to be at least a 20 to get into the program and then TCOM competitive is around a 27 (it varies each year from what I'm told). If you're in the ballpark (+/- 2) I'd be real hesitant to retake. Last thing you want to do is score lower on the second try. Most people score better but why risk it if you don't have to......

Sparkles a lack of call does not necessarily mean that you were not accepted. Someone indicated in a previous posting that all calls to accepted students had not been made. The school indicated to me that acceptance letters should be mailed this week. Don't make a determination about your status until you receive a confirmation from UNT. Good luck!

Well TXnontrad- I wish I could believe that, but it just seems weird to me. Why would they call over half of the applicants but not the rest? Also considering I have called AND emailed the office and they either *don't know* or simply won't reply to my email... That tells me all I need to know.

Well has anyone recieved their acceptance letter yet? I have not. I was also wandering has anyone got any fin. aid info yet? Any good luck to all

I'm not sure about a waitlist, but think about this: I'm waitlisted at TCOM. Applying post-bacc was my backup plan. Applying to my undergrad's brand new Forensic Science program was the backup to my backup (I didn't know UNT HSC had a forensics program at the time!)

I'm in at post-bacc, AND my Forensics program. If I get off the waitlist, there's a post-bacc seat that will be emptying. I'm sure I'm not the only one in that boat....so I would think their "final list" isn't as "final" as you might think.

That's what I'm saying labrat... I don't want to go ahead and *jump in* to something else (I'm now considering an EMT program, then PA school) if I'm not sure about my status. If I get a rejection letter (or as I call them: the YOU SUCK letter), then obviously I know I'm washed up and I'll have to move on. Maybe they will keep avoiding me because they aren't sure if there will be room... or maybe I'll get a waitlist letter? At least it will be a glimmer of hope.

Here's another question: Let's say that I am REJECTED from the program... Would I still be able to *take classes* as a non-degree seeking student (or something to that effect)?
