UofT interview

What do u mean "being on the inside"? Also, what do u guys know of the UT interview? I know that it's structural based, 20-40mins, CDA style.

Yea... i'll be on the inside too.. if that means being a mock intervieweee.
Mcgill is a good school if u don't mind the longer year, the integrated class with meds, and the fact that you'll have to the the quebec lisencing plus the province u want to work in...
And u should also brush up on that french.
As for U of t, u should be prepared to pay mad money for everything, and the fact the pollution can pay a toll on your health if you're coming from a relatively small city < compared to t.o.

the dean called me in mid-february and told me i was in, and also offered me $2000.
regarding the other post, i have no problems with the longer year and the integrated classes. however, this is the first time i've heard anything about having to do the quebec licensing.. i was planning on practicing in vancouver. that kind of sucks.
my french isn't particularly good, but i got by just fine during the 4 days i was in montreal for my interview without speaking any french.

I just had a mock u of T interview... i think it went good, we laughed , we cried, some smiles, to end off with a hand shake and farewell.
Anyway, some ppl i talked to said it was tough.

What is the MOCK U of T interview???
... a mock interview is used to set the standard, in essence, to <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" /> let the interviewers practice interviewing..

How do we sign up for this?? Is it by U of T faculty???
The only way you can sign up for this, is if you are in dental school at U of T. <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />
both western and uoft will have a similar interview format. two individuals will be interviewing each candidate. 1 dentist and 1 person from the community. the interview will range from 30-40 min in duration. the questions will be based upon problems involving personal situations as well as hypothetical situations given to you. i thought the interviews were kinda tough, and not quite what i expected. good luck to those applying.

what do u mean exactly by "the questions will be based upon problems involving personal situations"? That is, do they ask u about the typical why u wanna become a dentist etc.?
Also, what advice do u guys have for SUCCEEDING in interviews?

No. they will not ask you why you want to be a dentist or any question related to dentistry for that matter. they ask you something like: describe a situation where you were didn't get along with a coworker. what happened? did you do anything about it? a lot of B.S. like that.
To succeed you have to show that you can communicate,are genuine, and want to do dentistry. It helps to personalize your interview, by incorporating your past experiences into your answers whereever you can... SInce alll canidates are generally going to have the same answers.

Do these interviews tend to be open file or closed file interviews (i.e. does the panel have access to our grades and background info. prior/during the interview)? What types of questions are asked (i.e. current events, ethical, or personal)? If someone is able to give me some insight it would be really appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

I've only had one interview so far, but I hope this helps:
The interviews are closed file meaning that they don't know anything about you except your name before your interview and don't have access to your records during the interview either. They ask questions that don't really seem to have anything to do with dentistry...they like to ask "What would you do if [insert hypothetical situation here]?". These questions seem to require you to use your life experiences to come up with an answer and seem to be both personal and ethical. Also, they don't seem to ask about you, they just want to know how you would act in certain situations.

I'm a dental student at Western. Interviews for the Class of 2006 will be held in two weeks, over the weekend of April 13th-14th. Ontario applicants will be interviewed on the Saturday, whereas out-of-province applicants will be invited to the Sunday session. Hopefully we'll see some of you from this board then! Good luck 🙂
