hello! I am looking for information regarding the preparations for the practical bench exam and the interview for the IDP at UOP? What kind of preps do they usually require applicants to make?Class II amalgam? onlay? They have mentioned that it will be a table-top exam.I would really appreciate any help in this regard either from someone who has already given the entrance exam or someone who is preparing for it at present and has info abt them.
Thank you.

Hi , go to the web site of the Uop ,search for student store,in it you will find that they are buying [University Of Pacific IDS practise Kit]. It contains the ideal the preparations they want in a prepared cast by them and what they may ask you in the bench exam . and also a note.
I found this accidently when I was searching for typodent teeth to buy

Hello,
I am in IDS 2010,on vacation right now.Coming to preparations they ask for the bench top test, class 2 amalgam & PFM on 8.They give u ample time,I remember it was 2 & half hr.They give u a manual on the day of ur test,it is like a guide for u.It gives u very clear description.I think u can get the manual in the student store. They give u typodont, as well as instruments for the test.So dont worry practise well,U will be fine.Good luck.

Thanks neelima. Really appreciate u helping us out. Being a current IDS student u will be able to guide us the best. Can u please tell me if Pacific allows us to take any burs of our own as well as whether both carbides and diamond burs r provided? The manual they provide will be a great help for sure. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to meeting you there.

hello,

Pacific will provide u with all the instruments. They asked us not to get any burs last time, but then some of the staff said that it is ok to use other instruments if u r comfortable with them.So my advice wld be take them with u but ask the staff if u can use them or not.

hey..wat do they exactly mean by MOD 3/4 VC prep.....

neelima...How was ur experience for the interview..wat kind of questions we should expect...?

I am so sorry Elderwand.I was busy with the school cld not check this till today.Ok first coming to practical test,UOP most of the times have asked for class 2 and PFM or FVC.So focus on these ,but I wldnt say not to prepare for others. And coming to the criteria, what they teach us in the school is:
class 2:
1)The prep shld be parallel to the long axis of the tooth.
2)Angles of exit shld be 90 degrees.
3)As conservative as possible, isthmus should be such that small condenser #2 passes through.
Most important of all is damage to adj tooth.
PFM or FVC:
1)3-5 degree taper all over.
2)Defined margins.
3)Flow of the prep.
4)No sharp angles.
5)Optimal occlusal clearance.
NO DAMAGE TO ADJ TOOTH.

UOP provides u all of the instruments except hand pieces.I dont know abt this year. But in case some ones hand piece doesnot work, they rent you hand pieces, but not for all.
It is very student friendly atmosphere, they try to make you as comfortable as they can.Miss Pat is amazing.Interview will be simple, they wont try to trick you. They look for spontaneous honest answers.
I hope this helps.I might not check this site again. So see you guyz wednesday.Good luck.

-What do they mean by table top? The typhodonts won't be mounted in phantom heads? Does that mean we can move the typhodonts any which way?

and

- For the test, did they ask you to carve amalgam as well or just to make the cavity prep?

Thanks!!!

Hi Jess25
the typodonts will not be mounted on phantom heads and you can move them as you please. I also heard that you can seperate the maxilla and mandible and work. so they make it very convenient for everyone and hemce more competitive i guess, cos everyone will be doing well when you dont have to worry about how to move the typodonts. good luck to you and see you all on wednesday!!🙂
and yes...they just ask preps...no filling/carving.
