Actually Opal, I did. Are you female who is desperate search for hosting places, like I am??? PM me

Hi dentist husband ,

It was really nice of you to send me that PM. Do you know what are the practical work they ask us to do? Since i have been out of clinical touch for sometime now i am not sure how i can do it. Also,Do they ask any clinical questions in the interview or is it just a personal interview? Can you guide me? Also can you tell me from which book i can learn about the crown preparations? waiting for your response.

Meggs ,

I have just started to look for the hotels but not found the right one yet. Do you have any advice for the interview? Also where are you located? if you dont mind.

Hi Opal

I'll be flying from Florida, so too bad we cannot fly together. but anyway you won't be missing much, 'cause I get all this motion sickness, so I'm a useless travel partner. 🙂

About the inteview and test, well I read all of SDN comments about UOP interviews, some great people have been of great help on posting their repplies. Hopefully you and me will so too. 🙂

About hotels, well, I just saw an add on the travel agency for Hotels.com in which they supossedly have SF rooms from 50 dollars a night. I haven't gone to site yet, so I don't know who true that is during Xmas season. I have been trying to find info on students hostels, I know there are in SF, 'cause I stayed in one once, but don't remember the name nor location. 🙁

As soon as I decide what I'll be wearing I'll let you know, so we can tell each other apart. I bet I'll probably be one of the few Latin girls there, so it won't be hard for you to recognize me. 🙂

Hi meggs ,

Thanx for the reply. I am looking for hotels that are closer to the college & walkable distance so i dont have to spend time & money on travelling. Iwill let you know if i get something good.Well, do you know of any books where i can learn about the crown preparations? Also have you attended an interview in NYU recently? 😕

There is a hostel at Fort Mason near Fisherman's Wharf. A bed in a dorm room shared with others is $22- $29 per night. A private room is $67- $74 per night. The hostel is an old military building and Ft. Mason is now part of the National Park system. The driving distance from the hostel to UOP is 1.77 miles per mapquest. You can book a sapce at the hostel by going to www.norcalhostels.org. I will send another response about which hotels are within walking distance of the school after I find out.

Shillingburg's book on Fixed Prosthodontics. About NYU.... I wish!

Hey Meggs,

Welcome back! I hadn't seen you on here for a while. I got invited to UOP, but I'm not going. I hope you find everything you need to make a successful trip out of it.

GOod luck!

Yeah, got busy at work. Sad to hear you're not coming, 🙁. Why is that? PM me. Thanks!

Thankx meggs for that info. Also check your PM.

Hey guys, good luck at your interviews.

I have a suggestion for you, if you are looking to save money on your trip to San Francisco. If you are flying into the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and staying in the city of San Francisco, don't take a cab from the airport to the city. I was tired and very short on time while was out there and got in a cab at the SFO Airport to go to my hotel in the UCSF area. It cost me $50!!!!! I did not expect it to be that expensive. The next day at the interview, I learned from the other students that there were much cheaper alternatives. These included taking the MUNI system (the public transportation system) or taking a shuttle (costs less than $20). I'm not sure where you find the shuttle b/c I didn't see any signs for it at Ground Transportation at SFO, but if you have the time, you might as well ask for it. A number of students there had taken it. You can also call a shuttle to pick you up in the city and take you back to the airport. You have to call them a number of hours in advance on the day of your departure to make a reservation. Again, much cheaper than a cab. If you have lots of time and can figure out how to take the MUNI, I believe that is the cheapest option of all.

Hi Griffin,

Thanx a lot for that info. Do you have any idea as to how far is UOP from the San Francisco airport and how many min/hours it might take to travel by shuttle. Also have you gone for an interview in UOP. If so , can you share your experience with us.

I think it is about 40 minutes from the UOP building to the airport, this was in the rush-hour traffic. I would allow 1 hour just to be safe, although it isn't that far.

I am currently a senior in dental school at Buffalo, I'm not an applicant to the International dental programs. I've applied to the AEGD programs at UOP, but I'm not entirely sure yet if I am going to go to the interview.

Super shuttle is the best way to go, it cost abt $17/- after you collect your luggage, take the elevator to the 1st floor ( the floor just above you ) go out and you'll find it super shuttle there.
For pick up you can call them up at (415) or (650) 558-8500.

Good Luck to you griffin & I wish you get that call soon from UOP.

About the shuttle bus I came to know that one can catch it on the arrival level of SFO. Also as you mentioned earlier it costs about $15 -20 approx. between SFO & UOP.

Note:Can you explain AEGD program a bit as I have not heard about it before.

Thanx henna for that info .I would also like to know whether we need to make a reservation earlier or you can just get in the bus once we arrive in SFO & pay them on spot.

There's no need to reserve if you are coming from the airport, its a van ( not a bus ) its blue in colour. You can pay them on the spot.

Henna,

Sorry for the late response. Well, thank you once again for your info.

Meggs,

I spoke to Brenda about the dress code and she told me that we can wear casual clothes the 1st two days, but for the interview we need to wear a suit. I am planning to wear a simple pant/shirt the first 2 days & suit for the interview.I think skirt would not be comfortable during our practicals, as Kpat suggested in the other thread. Also, have you sent the money for the practice session cos' they told me that they must receive it by 5th to make the necessary arrangements.
Note:check your PM.

Brenda told me the same thing. And yes, I was late with my payment 'cause I didn't realize the dateline, but thanks God it finally got taken care of.

I have never wore a skirt to work, and I sure didn't plan to wear it on the practical days, more to the interview. I'll see what I finally decide. I'll be cold anyways, 🙂 Thanks.

AEGD = Advanced Education in General Dentistry

An AEGD is a 1 year program after dental school where you practice dentistry. You gain more experience and learn new techniques and stuff that they don't have time to teach you dental school. It basically makes you a more efficient practitioner and is kinda like a "transition year" between dental school and private practice. Another option similar to the AEGD is a GPR (General Practice Residency). The difference is that a GPR is affiliated with a hospital while an AEGD is usually located at a dental school. You get paid in either program, but you get paid a little more in a GPR b/c you have to take call and it's a little more involved than the AEGD.

An AEGD or GPR is not mandatory. You can go straight to work after dental school. I've been invited to interview for the AEGD at UOP, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna go to the interview. California sounded real good when I applied, but I'm from the east coast and I'm debating if I really want to go west for a year b/c I'll probably end up on the east coast anyways.

Thanxs for the feedback, griffin. Iam a dentist who had worked in several countries & finally landed here only to face the harsh reality that i had to get a licence to practice in U.S.I am currently going thro the process of getting into a college. Will the AEGD program be useful to me after i complete school? Also what you mean by taking call in GPR?

I live in New jersey.Where on the east coast are you?
