UOP is going PBL...uh oh!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

this isn't PBL, this is systems based learning, where you're integrating the basic sciences. we do it at Midwestern. it ends up cutting out redundantcies and the basic sciences gets trimmed down to a more efficient program. that translates into less class time (UOP being a 3 year school whould probably be interested in that right?!). kudos UOP!

so it's going pbl...

Nope.

They're integrating all the basic sciences courses together (Which was already done to some extent with anatomy/histo) and increasing case-based learning.

There is a massive difference between systems and case based learning and problem based learning. In all the case based learning sessions we have at Pacific, all the material we need (for the most part) is provided, and we don't have PBL sessions or triple-jumps (hallmarks of PBL). These are just alternate forms of more traditional pedagogy.

Trust me, I was like "oh NO" when I first heard the HELIX. After talking to a few Pacific students and realized it's gonna be system based learning, I am now even more excited about going there!!! That's one thing I LOVE about Midwestern and I am glad UOP is going towards that approach too!

Nice meeting you last Friday Armorshell!
