Hello everyone. I was hoping I could get some advice on the following:

I got accepted to UoP with a Dean's Scholarship of $60,000.
I also got accepted to UPenn w/o any scholarships.

I really like both schools. I just want to make the best choice.

I don't mind the location. I think I'll be happy in either of the two.
The price tag is a bit of a factor since UPenn is around $380K and UoP would be around $300K. However, I don't want to base my decision solely on that.

I would really appreciate any insight!

Thank you!!

UoP = cheaper + you get out a year earlier. If you make 125k your first year out its really like a 200k difference going to UoP. Plus San Francisco is awesome and everyone loves UoP.

Yeah, what he said! Take UoP and give me your Penn spot. Thanks.

I would argue they are both great cities, great schools, and similar in price.

I would go with Pacific just because it's a shorter program. It is arguably just as good a school. It depends where you are from, though. If you're from new england, it might make sense to go to Penn. But if you are from out west, I wouldn't move here for what you have already on your side of the country.

Thank you for your response. I'm actually from Florida. I really don't mind going to either coast.

I'm just having trouble deciding what exactly is the best match for me. I don't want to make it even harder to specialize if I decide to by going to UoP. Granted I don't know how much more difficult it'll be to try doing this compared to other schools. I also don't want to be midway through my 4 years in Penn and realize that I want to be a GP and maybe I should have gone to Pacific.

It's a tough decision because I never expected Pacific to give me the scholarship. It's making my decision that much harder .

From what I understand UoP sends plenty of people to specialties. Being able to handle an accelerated program would make you look good to both specialty programs or employers. The amount of money you would save from the UoP option, in the long run, especially if you are using loans because of interest accumulation, would be huge and would likely affect your ability to set yourself up as a specialist or a gp in my opinion.

You dont hear that very often:laugh:

Damn. Between getting out a year early and the scholarship it's tough not to go with UoP. Although personally I like Penn better, I think UoP is certainly the smarter choice given your circumstance. Doesn't mean you necessarily have to follow the logical choice though, haha.

Hey.
Can I ask your stats? I always wonder what the stats would be like to get accepted from UoP.

I would go to UOP because it is 3 years !!!

This would be easy for me. I'd choose UOP in a heartbeat. Great school, cheaper, happy students,3 years, and in California. It's the best of both worlds. You live in a great place and still get a great clinical experience. UPenn = gunners and has a bunch of other qualities that many people would covet (reputation, specialty rates, research opportunities, yadadada) which I could care less about.

OMG.. Damn girl get it.

Do you have crazy extracurriculars?

I have sufficient volunteer work, worked at a dental office, e-board officer of pre-dental society, worked throughout college, rising trend after my 2nd year, decent PS? Nothing too crazy.

I wish I had a scholarship like yours to UoP!!

^ Agreed with the above post.

Also, think about the extra year you get out of UOP. That adds one more year to your profits, no matter where your career takes you.

This is a pretty clear cut win for Pacific I think. Cheaper (when does that happen?), shorter and IMO, a better city.

I'm leaning towards UoP. I guess I'll decide in a few days when I'm completely comfortable with my decision 🙂

Umm amalgam, correct me if i am wrong but your predents DEFINITELY stated that you were rejected from penn recently but does not now.

In addition, there are some things that don't seem sound between what some of your previous post suggest and what your predents says.

Please do not make things up and mislead people. 👎

It's almost as if PreDents is a unreliable source.

As I've said in other posts, I wasn't rejected by Penn (I might as well have been, though. It's no longer a Pre-December acceptance); I just haven't heard back from them. I don't get why that matters to you so much.

Leave Amalgam alone. He likes that Wharton title ya heard? He's touchy about Corky not getting back to him before Dec 1st as if this is the NFL draft. I am sure he is smart enough to realize though that many students opt to go to state schools or cheaper private schools over Penn due to the large tuition rates; consider him accepted until proven rejected/officially waitlisted.

I'm in the same situation as you. Any theories why we didn't get dec. 1 acceptances there like most other pre-dec. interviewees?
