During the interview, they said they are going to give good news (Acceptance) or bad news (Waitlisted) within 2~3 weeks. But It is been more than 4 weeks and i did not receive any result yet... I am not sure what is going on...seems like many people after me got either accepted or waitlisted. Anybody in this situation? I want to get the result so I can finalize my decision....and UOP is one of my top choice....

Interesting post, I've always heard that an interview at UoP was almost synonymous with acceptance.

Close... but there are exceptions. Its kinda like how college is synonymous with "getting laid."

Question, do they assign you a number?

I interviewed at UoP on Jan 27. They called me a week later to tell me I was waitlisted.

Here are the steps of being waitlisted at UoP:
1. Send 200 dollars to hold your spot on the alternate list. (it will be refunded if you don't get in). They told me it was just to make sure you are serious about attending.

2. they take all of the alternates who paid their 200 and rank them on the alternate list. They will not tell you how long the list is or what exact number you are. However, they separate the list into quadrants, numbered 1 through 4. They will tell you what quadrant you are in. 1st quadrant has a good chance of being accepted. 2nd quadrant, okay chance. 3rd and 4th have a really low chance.

3. They will let me know in March or April if I made it in or not. Until then, I will just be crossing my fingers. Hopefully I still have circulation by the time March or April comes around.

I hope that answers any questions about UoP and their waitlist.

Good luck! I really hope you get in.

According to predents, looks like someone who interviewed with us got in today. I personally haven't heard anything.

I turned down my offer. Good luck to those on the waitlist!👍

Waitlist is divided into 4 quartiles
1 has the highest chance of getting in. The school almost always take everyone off the 1st quartile. 2 quartile students have ok chance of getting in. I was on the 2nd quartile and I did not get in 2 years ago. 3 and 4 are a MAYBE in if you're lucky and we get more students dropping out last min. Again, every year the waitlist movement is different. My neighbor in the sim lab was apparently on the 4th quartile last year and she made it in. So don't give up hope.

There are usually about 50-60 students on the waitlist but here is the bad news. School usually over accept 15-20 students assuming a good % of the students are going to turn down their offers. After more students decide to decline than the school expected, that's where the waitlisters will come in.

Here's some more good news, even if you do not get in off the waitlist this year, you're pretty much a shoe in for next cycle as it has been demonstrated at Pacfic years after years.

Here is the breakdown.
About half of you waitlisters will choose to go somehwere else this cycle, that's a no brainer. The other half of the waitlisters will either love UOP that much to wait for that 1 extra year (like me), or did not get into anywhere else. So that's usually about 15-25 people. If you did not get in, the school will return your 200 dollar deposit and ask you to reapply again next cycle. Most of the you will get that phone call on Dec 1st without an interview and some of you will be reinterviewed. There's nothing to worry about, the school just want to double check if you're that guy they want because you somehow did not deliver during your 1st interiew. You're going to get in anywayz. Ok good luck to you waitlisters, I wish the best to you all!!!

I interviewed Feb. 10, and I've been accepted. Found out last week.

👍 Congratulations. Looks like you've been accepted to a lot of schools. Have you decided on where you'll be going this summer?

+1 very precise and detailed. 👍

Ah, I've been waitlisted. This is quite devastating. 🙁

My 2 cents,
Honestly, the waitlisters...you're not in a bad situation. You're waitlisted probably at the only school that takes almost 100% of the waitlisters from the previous year. Pacific is a great place to receive your education, but it's probably one of the hardest school in the country due to the pace. Feel free to stop reading here if you're turned off by the tuition.

If Pacific has impressed you that much and it's one of your top choices; If I were you, I really would consider decline your other offers and wait for that one extra year and go relax, or take some classes like biochem, microbio, anatomy, histology, and/or physiology to help you gain a more smooth transition to dental school. BTW, those are the classes Pacific will ask you to take if you have not done so already, while you're waiting. you don't have to take all 5, but try to at least take a few.

The bottom line is,
You will come out at the same time as the other schools you got accecpted to, and you will get to have a break. It's a great trade of!!!! I would've done it all over again if I have the same choice.

Thanks for your encouragement, peerless218.

Among all the schools I have interviewed with, Pacific is my number one choice. But it will be difficult to turn down offers from all my other schools. It's been almost 3 years since I graduated from college. I'd love to go back to school ASAP and not fall behind. It's a tough call.

Do you mind share which schools made offers to you?
Definitely, it's a tough call. However, I wish you the best of luck. :luck:

hey remember, it's not over yet. You have all the way till the 1st day of school to know if you make it or not. You don't even know what quartile you're in as of now

I fell in love with Pacific the moment I set foot on campus. I figured if I didn't get in this year, I would go with Peerless's advice (waitlist -> acceptance) and turn down my other offers.

Why would I do such a thing?

Well, I figured that UoP is three years and other schools are four years. If I turned down my other offers and got accepted during the 2011 AADSAS cycle at UoP, I would technically graduate at the same time if I was attending a traditional four year Dental School for the AADSAS 2010 cycle.

UoP now -> 2014 Graduation
UoP next year -> 2015 Graduation
Traditional 4 year now -> 2015 Graduation

So technically, you aren't falling behind at all.

I guess it's easier said then done, and one needs hecka reassurance to turn down offers from other schools already....just to bank on the "rumor" that one will get in next year (easily) if you were on the wait list. But that being said, my student interviewer was also one of those students who didn't get in one cycle, was wait listed, and was accepted asap the next cycle. So I think the probability of this rumor is very high. Would I wait for UoP? Hm, I would. But once again, it's easier said then done. Good luck with your decision!

Rainee, may I ask what schools did you turn down your offers? 😎
I guess you're in CA?
I totally agree with you that UoP has everything we need in a dental school.
Enjoy your one year break! 😍
