I'm starting Pacific in July (excited for school to begin, relaxing in the meantime) and had some questions...

1) Dress code at school?

2) Is there some paper printing allowance? Or do we need to bring our own printer? Do we even need a printer (are most things done paper-less?)?

3) Recommend buying new books? Buying from school bookstore? Buying online? Buying from students?

4) Need/use a backpack?

5) If you could have known ______ you would have done ____ differently?

6) I'm moving into the Pacific Apartments but am coming from out of state...how did you manage getting furniture (bed, desk, bookcase, etc)?

That's all for now. Thanks!

wow waitlisted...that was pretty rude. We aren't told a lot of things first you know...

anyway, hello! I'm starting UOP dent school in july as well! Looking forward to meeting you! ^_^ I can understand the questions, since the dental school doesn't really directly address a lot of them. I had to go look into a lot of them myself, and SDN is pretty helpful too!

to answer some of your questions:
1) it essentially is business attire (like more than business casual) so dress shirts, slacks, and a tie for guys; blouse/dress shirt, slacks/skirt/business dress, stockings for girls. it's written up online. here's the link (it's a PDF file) http://sfdental.pacific.edu/cms-hum...y Statements/Professional Appearance Code.pdf

3)Books are part of our tuition. so we have to buy it from them. (thanks to armorshell for the info)

4)From what I saw of the students during the times i visited and when I interviewed, it seems like many had backpacks since they have the school-issued laptop to lug around as well all their kit stuff, food, notebooks, etc. But i've also seen girls carrying larger purses/work bags (like purses meant to hold laptops) to hold everything. It seems like everyone always had a lot of stuff, but that's just from what observed. The nice thing is that students have lockers in one of the rooms to put their extra stuff in so you don't have to worry about lugging it around all day.

6)there are probably lots of places to get cheap furniture in the city. check craigslist maybe?

Since I don't go to the school yet, I can't answer all the questions, but i hope this helped!

Waitlisted: maybe you are waitlisted because you have an attitude problem?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone too! I saw the dress code after i posted...that does help.

If anyone has more info, I'd (and I'm sure other students) would appreciate it!

Craigs list and graduating students are your best bet. And cheap.

A possibility for furniture is to find 3rd years moving out of the apartments that are willing to sell for cheap so they don't have to move it. I don't live there otherwise I'd hook you up with info. Maybe student relations at school can help you out. Like everyone else said - Craigslist is great. I think it started in the bay area and has a huge following in the city. There's also a couple of Ikea's within easy driving distance.

For your other questions -

No paper allowance yet, we get a lot of powerpoints off blackboard. Some people print them, some don't.

A backpack designed for the laptop and the required books are all in your kit.

I don't know when you can move into the building, but if you can - spend some time cruising around SF. Especially if you're not from CA. 1st year doesn't allow too much time to discover the city.

If you have more questions - ask! Don't worry about haters... pretty sure that's the point of a forum.

See you next year!

ihearttennis,

did you get the lease forms for pacific apartments yet? i was told that i won the lottery last Friday and that they would send me the related documents, but I have not received them. Thoughts?

Hi...congrats on housing! You're not going to be homeless in SF 🙂

When Torri called, she said they were mailing them out late this week...so I'm expecting to get it either today (Friday 4/24) or early next week.

Thanks for the reply and info!

I feel your dental school student pain.

The Goodwill a few blocks down the street at Fillmore/Post was where I got some of my furniture.

Graduating 3rd years are a great source as a previous poster said. If you know anyone right now that could get you into housing, check out the rec room/lounge about the time when school ends. Everyone dumps their unwanted stuff in that area (or at least when I was there in 2001). you could come away with desks, tables, chairs.

You have no choice with the books, you will get all brand new books that are included in the tuition/supplies.

should all the students take part II before graduation in UOP?

Good luck to all who got in pacific.I am a pacific student, class of 2010.Hope to see you all soon.

Hello to all current (and most likely graduating) UOP students:

To anyone who wants to get rid of furniture, I'm a potential buyer! I'm looking for a bed (preferably a full size), nightstand, dresser, bookcase, desk, lamps...pretty much anything and everything that might be available.

Message me if you have items available for sale 🙂

Passing Part 2 is a requirement for graduation from Pacific.

And as far as furniture stuff is concerned, people are beginning to send out all kinds of e-mails trying to sell things. After the last round of regional boards this weekend, I imagine tons more will begin to sell stuff. I'm not sure how to get you access to this info since you don't have your Pacific e-mail yet. Facebook might work. I will send out an e-mail suggesting this to graduating seniors.
