Does anyone have an idea about how long it takes for UOP to review your file? They say 4-8 weeks, what are your experiences?

Thanks!!

It took at least that long for me. I've got a friend who submitted his application in May with a 24AA (all of his scores are 20+) and his app is still under review. He's got a decent GPA too. I'm not sure what their review process is like, so I can't say exactly how long you can expect to wait.

My app got to them on Sept 13 and I got a call for an interview on Sept 20th or so.

😡

Seriously?

I am still waiting.

Yeah, seriously. I think it helped that I happen to live in the city and dropped by the school for a tour that week. I guess they remembered me.

Wow! Lucky you! I have been waiting since the middle of June for them. (My application has been complete that long.) And I would like to think that my stats don't suck. (See My stat's on Stat page.) But, apparently not what they were looking for, even with experience.

🙁

Yeah, I don't know their exact criteria, but it's relatively early still. They just started interviewing in Oct, about 10 people/week. I have a couple of friends that didn't get interviews until March or April and they got in. Good luck!

special?? I'd say on-the-ball. The first day to submit apps was May 18, but the system was down. So he submitted his first thing the next day, as did I.

I submitted my application at the end of July and got the interview invitation recently. But kind of disappointed that the earliest possible date was mid of december. 🙄

wishlena,

Can you please let us know what is your stat (DAT/GPA)?

Thanks

Thanks

My DAT is 24/19 and GPA is 3.6 for both overall and science.

Here is my confusion on why I haven't atleast gotten an interview: 🙁

BTW, my AADSAS # is under 20. As in 2005000**, 😀

and my DAT

AA: 19
PA: 18
QR: 17
RC: 21
BIO: 20
GC: 20
OC: 19
Tot S: 20

and my GPA 3.8-4.0 ( Some schools 4.0, some 3.9, some 3.8) 🙂

and my exp.= 6 year hygiene.

So that said, I think UOP might be looking at DAT closer this year, because what other factors can they really tell about and applicant's application except the obvious above. (DAT, GPA, Exp.) (And LOR of course, I had 12, all highly recommended.)

12 LOR?? you serious? maybe that pissed them off to read all those. everyone always says don't go over 5-6 because otherwise you might come across as pompous. i don't know. but damn! nice stats. don't lose faith - they are being arrogant this year because they can be - everyone applied there!

I think you overwhelm them with those LOR's. They only have time to skim through your LOR's and PS. If there's something interest them, they stop and read more. I'm sure all of those 12 are possitive, but are they all thoughtful? IMO, three thoughtful LOR's are sufficient. Good Luck!

Some of those LOR's were submitted by my advisor when they were just job references and not supose to be actual LOR. So technically, I have like 6 DMD, professors, and personal recommendations.

Darksunshine, I'm just as baffled as you. My AADSAS # is similar to yours, my GPA is 3.4, DAT is 24/24/23. UOP came to my school a couple weeks ago, and it seemed to me that they first look at personal comments and letters of rec, then DAT scores. I'm beginning to wonder if I came across as some kind of cocky jerk through my comments and letters. 😀

The funny thing about people "thinking" other people are "Cocky" is usually related to the amount of insecurity they have about their own abilities. Withstanding out right ignorrance and rudeness, but come on, how many people who are trying to get into dental school are going to be like that???
😱
I think if anything almost all people are going to be very, very, accomadating.
🙂
People that are insecure are usually offended by confident (not cocky) individuals. It is really silly but if you don't kiss some major booty or you mention you are a dental professional how fast you get that, "OH I SEE I can't be wiping my feet on you vibe therefore I don't like you."

Take it from my own experience last year, I found out the reason why I wasn't chosen off the wait list is because my interviewer thought that all hygienist have a chip on their shoulder and because he didn't read my file and didn't know I was a hygienist till about the middle or end of the interview, he all of sudden started acting like, "Oh we are done here, as I can see you are a hygienist ......" Basically, because my interviewer had an opinion (with hygienists in HIS past, not me) he immediately transferred that opinion to me. Funny how things were going well up untill that piece of info popped into the conversation. (I had a conversation w/admiss faculty about why I wasn't chosen but made the waitlist.) Needless to say I have been invited for an interview at that school this year, and got a DIFFERENT interviewer. I think it went a lot better.

I can only imagine how some one with vision and drive could also some how hide that by having opposite personality traits. I mean after all, what are they looking for? People who know what they want to be and why, OR the undecided?

I guess it is ALL about the perception of those that read your statement and looking at your history, etc. However, how can someone truly get a sense for a persons dynamics (who they really are IN real life, not this test tube application process) by reading one small 1000 word essay.

All of this said of course is my opinion, and reading this forums has certainly broadened my views on other's styles of expressions.

Good Luck to all who applied this cycle! :luck:

P.S. please forgive any major grammer error's as I am running on minimal sleep from staying up late to see election result. 🙁

Nah . . . When they found out you are missing your arms and legs they decided to wait a little bit and see if any other limbless folks apply.

I called them last week and they said that most interview invitations were already sent out. However, my file was still opened for consideration in case someone decides to withdraw his/her app.

Now that California has approved stem cell research, however, I may have a chance to regrow my limbs.

UOP just might call yet!
