Darksunshine, I'm just as baffled as you. My AADSAS # is similar to yours, my GPA is 3.4, DAT is 24/24/23. UOP came to my school a couple weeks ago, and it seemed to me that they first look at personal comments and letters of rec, then DAT scores. I'm beginning to wonder if I came across as some kind of cocky jerk through my comments and letters. 😀
The funny thing about people "thinking" other people are "Cocky" is usually related to the amount of insecurity they have about their own abilities. Withstanding out right ignorrance and rudeness, but come on, how many people who are trying to get into dental school are going to be like that???
😱
I think if anything almost all people are going to be very, very, accomadating.
🙂
People that are insecure are usually offended by confident (not cocky) individuals. It is really silly but if you don't kiss some major booty or you mention you are a dental professional how fast you get that, "OH I SEE I can't be wiping my feet on you vibe therefore I don't like you."
Take it from my own experience last year, I found out the reason why I wasn't chosen off the wait list is because my interviewer thought that all hygienist have a chip on their shoulder and because he didn't read my file and didn't know I was a hygienist till about the middle or end of the interview, he all of sudden started acting like, "Oh we are done here, as I can see you are a hygienist ......" Basically, because my interviewer had an opinion (with hygienists in HIS past, not me) he immediately transferred that opinion to me. Funny how things were going well up untill that piece of info popped into the conversation. (I had a conversation w/admiss faculty about why I wasn't chosen but made the waitlist.) Needless to say I have been invited for an interview at that school this year, and got a DIFFERENT interviewer. I think it went a lot better.
I can only imagine how some one with vision and drive could also some how hide that by having opposite personality traits. I mean after all, what are they looking for? People who know what they want to be and why, OR the undecided?
I guess it is ALL about the perception of those that read your statement and looking at your history, etc. However, how can someone truly get a sense for a persons dynamics (who they really are IN real life, not this test tube application process) by reading one small 1000 word essay.
All of this said of course is my opinion, and reading this forums has certainly broadened my views on other's styles of expressions.
Good Luck to all who applied this cycle!
P.S. please forgive any major grammer error's as I am running on minimal sleep from staying up late to see election result.
