Im a newbie, and I have a question for those who are accepted at UOP.

I know that some colleges prefer that you do all your sciences during the year and at a 4 year college. I was just wondering if any of you took any of the pre-req classes at a JC during the summer. I am currently attending a four year univerisity, but I wanted to go home for the summer.

Thanks for you help! 😍

I took a few pre-req's at a JC. I don't think it matters as long as you're getting a degree from your 4 year University.

In fact, I would recommend taking the majority of your prereqs at the JC level. It is slightly easier and the teachers are more dedicated to your learning. Good Luck.

Did any of you take it in the summer?

I took the majority of my science courses at my university. I took a few courses at a JC during all semesters-- winter, spring, summer, fall. I mostly took GE's like economics, english, and philosophy. My science classes were taken at a university. The summer would be a good time to get some of those GE's out of the way. 🙂

Did you take any science courses over the summer? What about math?

Thanks a lot..you guys are really helpful.

I only took GE's at JC's over the summer. But if I were you I would take math over the summer if that's an option for you. As far as science courses go, some schools may prefer that you take it at a university based on better equipment or whatever. I don't know 🙂 . I think you can take whatever classes you want over the summer, but I would suggest that you take microbiology and organic chemistry at the university. At my campus visit last year to UOP, the admissions people seemed to stress those two classes a lot.

Did they say anything about taking science courses over the summer at a 4 year university?

The thing is I am currently a third year right now and just starting on my pre-rep, so I am trying to find ways to get done as soon as possible so that I can apply to pharm schools.

I think taking a science over the summer at a 4-year university sounds reasonable. Basically, this was my take on what they told me for UOP. For each semester, you should take at least 16 semester units so that it shows them how well you can perform under a heavy courseload. This is significant for UOP since it's an accelerated program. And like I said earlier, they seemed to focus on ochem and microbio a lot during my talk with them. I think you can take math, physics, gen chem, other bio courses, and GE's at a JC if you'd like. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Since you are just starting on your pre-req's now, the introductory chem and bio courses can be taken at JC's if you'd like. Besides, how many classes would you plan to be taking at a JC this summer anyways? Don't overload yourself during the summer either, since it can be pretty intense. 🙂

I agree, I am knocking out as many GE's as possible during the summer quarter that way I can concentrate more on my sciences during the rest of the year. I feel so alone having quarters at my school, everyone else has semesters it seems like. 🙁

My school has a quarter system 🙂
