Uop vs. Usc (I want to specialize)...thoughts

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't want to come across as an ass, but I have family in the field and all they have told me is that you have no idea if you really want to specialize until you actually start performing procedures from each speciality and trying them out.

So helpful thank you

It all comes down to how prepared and how well you perform amongst your classmates. You could be the worst student at either school and not be able to specialize. I've heard USC doesn't do to well in terms of match rates for specialties OUTSIDE of USC because of its reputation, but USC itself is more likely to accept its own students for specialties? Not too sure about UoP, I think I've heard they do just fine though.

Regardless, it's all up to you and how well you do.

I heard the same! 🙂

For example, students from Columbia and Harvard are pretty much guaranteed to match somewhere. Some schools have incredible reputations and some just don't. Have you heard anything about UOP or USC specifically?

But I want to be an osteopathic tooth podiatrist!

At one of my interviews, I was asked where I saw myself in 10 years. I told them that I obviously hope to be working in dentistry and that I don't know if I want to specialize yet because I haven't even started dental school. One of the people interviewing me flat out said that she agreed with my statement because nobody really knows until they perform the procedures themselves.
