Currently, I'm on a waitlist for a medical school, post-interview. I wanted to provide them with an update letter on additional publications, activities etc., but I also recently found out that I was accepted to an SMP.

Would it be a bad idea to mention my acceptance to the SMP in the update letter? I can see how some people might consider it a conflict of interest. However, I think it also demonstrates a dedication to attend medical school and my commitment to continued learning.

Just wanted some advice on this before I finish writing the letter. Thanks!

I don't see an SMP acceptance as a factor that would help you get off the med school's waitlist.

Yes. At a minimum, your judgement would be brought into question (not about getting into an SMP, but thinking that this would be an asset to your admission.)

I wouldn’t do it. They could totally say: good for you, good luck at xyz smp, see you in a later app yr
