Hi all. So I’m thinking of whether I should send an update letter, an email of interest, or both. I’ve already sent a couple emails of interest to the admissions offices detailing the aspects of the school that I like, but at other schools I’m unsure of what to do. I haven’t written an update letter yet, but I’m thinking I'll upload an update letter to my portal and then send the interest email to the admissions office/directors but I’m not sure (I do have substantiative updates; qualified for national speech tournament, 3.94 fall GPA, new abstract accepted at national conference) . The emails of interest seemed to help as I have not received pre-II R at schools that I should have and I attribute those to the emails of interest. Adcom advice appreciated! @Goro @LizzyM @gyngyn @gonnif

From what I’ve read from Adcoms here is that letters of interest are meaningless unless you are waitlisted.

1) Make sure that the school allows for updates
2) Make sure that the update is substantial. For example, you starting an activity is not worth an update.
3) The schools know you're interested because you sent them an app. This isn't like dating.,
