OK, I interviewed at my top choice school last week and will definitely go there if I'm accepted. When should I send an update letter saying I will attend no matter what (ie. write down I will withdraw all other apps, etc). Is it proper to write down that I will withdraw all other applications in this type of letter? Can I write something along the lines of saying that I give them my word I will go or does this seem like begging and will they reject me for stooping to such a level  ?

i think it depends on the school. some might get annoyed, some might be impressed, etc.

thanks constructor.

i guess i'm gonna have to think this one out since its my only interview in california.

anyone else have advice?

this is a letter of intent and its common practice to send one letter of intent to your top choice school. Say you are writing to declare your intent to enroll if admitted, regardless of offers from other schools. Just keep it professional. I wouldn't use the phrases "I give you my word" or " I swear" since that sounds kind of cheesy but you can be definitive and say you'd withdraw from all other schools. A school won't get annoyed because you are basically guaranteeing you won't reject their offier and that helps them out since they want to minimize the number of folks rejecting their offers.

thanks carlene...that clarifies a lot for me

I second Carlene's statements. I just submitted a similar letter to my top choice. It basically said, whoa, you guys are awesome, here's what I like so much about the school and how chill I'd be there and then closed with something along the lines of "if you guys accept me, I'll attend" (although it was just a tad more elegant than that). I waited about a week and then sent it in. I wanted to give it a few days so it didn't come across as uber-desperate. Plus, it gives them another excuse to open up my file while they're making their decision. g'luck.

Ps. You aren't really a Lakers fan, are you?

Hey lakerfan,

I just got back from my UC Irvine interview and I absolutely love the school. I plan to write UCI a letter by the end of this week to say thank you and declare my intention to enroll there if I get accepted. Like you, I am trying to figure out the right words to say in the letter without sounding too pushy. Let me know what you come up with, and I will also share with you what i have. perhaps we can work on this together?

I did this for a school...I said that I interviewed so-and-so date, that I appreciated the chance to interview, and that I intend to matriculate there if I am accepted. The next paragraph I wrote about what I appreciated about the school, and concluded with something about how I hope I have the opportunity to pursue my medical studies there. I sent this about a month after the interview and should be hearing back in the next week or so...

Do you include your grades with it? I personally don't think my last semester grades are anything to bragg about.

you don't have to brag about them. you can just kind of tease them with it. you know, show them your grades and be like, "here's a sample of what i have to offer... there's more to come if you accept me if you know what i mean."

Don't forget the <nudge, nudge, wink, wink>
