Hi! I was wondering if someone could give me some insight or an opinion on updating my MD schools with a recent DO acceptance. I am unsure of how this information would sit with an MD admissions committee. Thank you!!

Probably not the best idea because frankly, MD schools probably will not care. I think in general, they don't really look at what other schools you are accepted at to make admissions decisions unless off the waitlist or when considering scholarship money (in this case it still is not a huge component).

How would you respond if you were an admission's officer and someone sent an update like that? Someone who gets into a MD school also shouldn't update MD schools with that info.

But congrats on your acceptance!

I can't imagine this would be a good idea. An MD acceptance could under certain circumstances (i.e. post II and needing to decide where to put a deposit down) be useful, but I'd imagine a DO acceptance would be completely irrelevant to an MD adcom and come off poorly.
Celebrate your acceptance though!

Thank you for all the insight!! I appreciate it 🙂 I am a reapplicant who was on three wait lists last year so I will definitely be celebrating!!!

We share your joy, but such an update would not spur MD schools into accepting you, too, if that is your purpose.

Lol If I was an Adcom and see this update, it would definitely give me a good laugh for a couple minutes. No one will even bat an eye at the DO acceptance and likely toss your update in the trash while chuckling at how naive you are for thinking that they'll care. That would be one of the worst updates in the history of update for MD med school admission.

You should send them the update, but only to schools who are open to such update emails. Make sure that when you send the PDF or Word document over, you elaborate on this accomplishment; they don't want to read just one line - they want to hear everything about the school and application process. Think of it as a second secondary application, where they can get a better sense of who you are as a person.

Best of luck

If you do this, why not also add in a request for a full-ride scholarship.

Congratulations on obtaining the opportunity to pay a nonrefundable $1,000 dollar deposit.
Now now it could be an opportunity for so much more. . . Like a 2000-3000$ nonrefundable deposit with a 3 week deadline

I wouldn't even update an MD school about an MD acceptance.. why would you tell them about a DO acceptance?... THis is just ridiculous - but to answer your question - no don't do it.
