Update on WesternU

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know I just got that email. I'm sooo bummed. I mean do you think there are is any chance of getting in now, like if people are on waitlists and they get in somewhere else? I got in to Tennessee, but I totally wanted to go to Western. I know some many people who turned it down, they must have over accepted by a lot. wow, this really stinks 🙁

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that 🙁 As I'm sure you know, it says nothing about your qualifications or the strength of your desire to be a vet. Stick with it!!

I find it strange though that they filled their whole class, especially considering several people including myself on this board turned down our offers. Perhaps they give out more offers than there are seats, which would be surprising but who knows.

They said at my interview day that they were trying very hard not to overfill the class as they did with this freshman class. So, I assumed they would send only 100 acceptances.. I guess not. I was not even waitlisted anywhere else so I was really really praying. I know that it doesn’t mean anything about my determination or qualification; plenty of people apply more than once... I just want to go and feel upset that not one person waiting got an offer... not really fair if you ask me.

It is normal for all schools to offer more acceptances than class number. They do this because they do not expect everyone who initially gains acceptance to maltriculate.
Sorry about the bad news...I think there is still a possibility. You have to remember this only means that the class was full by those which paid their deposit. That does not mean they will ultimately end up where they paid their deposit. I am an example of this because I was accepted to many other schools but alternate at Western. I kept my alternate status but paid my deposit to keep my spot at another school. When I was taken off Western's alternate list, I withdrew from the school I put my deposit on.

Keep this in mind....Western's deposit is only 😴 $500. 😴
I got accepted there and turned it in.... other schools, however, are just now getting off their butts and sending people notices about alternate spots and so on. When the deposit requirement is low....the chances for people like you sitting at home with your fingers crossed is high. Relax, breathe, and pray a little. There is still much hope....promise!

E-mail doesn't mean much....read the last post on the page.

i recently contacted an admissions rep from western who stated that they offered 160 seats for the fall 06 vet class. they have received 105 acceptances and deposits. i am currently on their "alternate" list and was REALLY hoping to attend. i am sympathizing with all of you. i am so frustrated b/c now ross is my only other hope for fall 06 vet school. does anyone know how life in st. kitts is???? im planning on visiting prior to committing to the vet school, but im nervous about such a change in lifestyle. any help or words of wisdom out there?????

So seriously what do you think the chances are that a hand full of those people back out🙂 I really want to go there too. its so hard to convince myself to let go of the prospect of going out to california. So anyway I feel your pain. ANd then I wonder how many people did they put on the waitlist. the other 140 people that interviewed??? i guess there is still hope for a few of us🙂

i called after the april 17th deadline. i spoke with a woman in admissions and she was very helpful.....but heartbreaking none the less. she also told me that they accepted applicants with a 2.7 so i was just crushed since i have a 3.1. let me know if you hear anything.

they didn't tell me how many on the waitlist. i assumed that out of the 300 interviewed, 160 offered seats and the remainder were on alternates, but the rep told me that was not true. they did turn some interviewees away...but how many, i don't know.

Well... you know... GPA's aren't everything.

I guess we can only hope that at least 15 people get called off other wait lists. I wonder why they wait until a class of 90 to make offers. I mean if they can hold a class of 100 why not call someone when they get to 99? I suppose it the fact that they want a widely diverse class. I live in MA and the thought of getting a call or letter August first haunts me. It would mean a quick flight and thanking my boyfriend profusely for driving my bird and rat across the country without me. Ugh. I hate this waiting game.

don't get me wrong, i know gpa isn't everything. but i have 6 years as a vet tech, 2 years at a zoo, 2 years in animal research, and volunteered at a farm. and my gre's are above average. so i thought that i had a good chance. but i guess not im not what they are looking for right now.
