Today, my lab submitted a manuscript for a paper on which I will be second author. Considering I'm on three wait-lists, and one of them is moving by the day, should I update schools with this info and include the manuscript?

I should note that my PI is a pretty prolific academic. He does everything right. Not much of a chance that it won't get accepted.

Same position as you, but I'm planning to wait until the manuscript gets accepted.... hopefully within the next couple of weeks...

It won't hurt to say that your lab has submitted a manuscript and that you are optimistic that it will get published soon.

I would wait, but Murphy's Law tends to screw me. Do you want to be stressed, wondering if you will have to call the schools and withdraw your manuscript?

I also work for a prolific academic and I didn't wait at all. It's best to show that you've been working hard on research and contributing to science. When it gets accepted just let them know again. If anything you make it known that you're still interested enough in the school to update them.

Right, I don't think it would hurt at all.

Haha! It's a great feeling and wonderful accomplishment so be proud! Come to think of it, I was completing secondaries when my manuscript was submitted for review. So when it was accepted I sent the update then. It is in press now so I am still waiting to show up in PubMed. But either way I don't think it would hurt to mention it.

Congrats and good luck to the both of you!
