Does anybody have updated match lists for IM programs? Some of them haven't updated their websites, and I really didn't want to bother the PCs with another match list email. I thought we could combine our forces and save countless emails to the PCs.

It will depend.

If a top tier program ordinarily matches great but this year they "haven't gotten around to posting the match list yet" and it's the end of January, you may have to wonder.

The mid-tiers etc. will probably vary. Some always post their results, and some probably never do. When in doubt, ask the residents you meet at the interview. If you have one of their email addresses and it's mid-January and you're getting antsy, you can always slip it into an email to that resident under the guise of "I have several questions for you if you don't mind because Program X definitely stood out to me and is among my top choices right now..."

I think my program is two or three years behind on posting updates on where people went. Not because we hide it, but simply because they take forever to update the website. I doubt many programs are really conspiring.

Its on their website. They list the matches for the past 3 years. This past year was very strong especially for heme/onc with like 3 people going to MDACC. Plus lots of in house matches and they have lots of great fellowships.
 
Why do you guys care so much about the match lists from already established top programs? If you go to one and can't get a good fellowship, it says more about you than the program. Also, as people get older, they make fellowship decisions for personal/family/regional reasons as well. Not everyone will want to go to the "best" fellowship they can get into.

Fellowship match lists matter more for less established programs that you may have questions about the success of their graduates. Listing UCSF/Vandy/Michigan/MGH, etc is just a circle jerk.

I can't speak for everybody but what I was trying to accomplish was to decrease the amount of emails to PCs and residents about their respective programs' match lists(top middle or bottom tier). I interviewed early at a lot of places so I couldn't ask them during interview day. Why I want to see match lists? Personally its just to get a sense of where their residents go. Whether its due to the applicant or the residency program....I don't know....but the fellowship outcomes could serve as a surrogate marker of their program's clinical and research strengths.

I go a little beyond that and independently look at whether or not faculty research interests match my own, how productive they are, and a couple other things, but honestly seeing their match lists just help with the process.

I think that is totally legit for middle/lower programs. But people asking/posting the lists of consensus top 10-15 programs is not going to help you make your decision. If a Penn resident goes somewhere you dont think is good enough for fellowship would that impact you?
 
Completely agree with most of the posts above. Match lists should only be one (of many factors) used when making a residency decision. There are many great programs out there and you will have much more success (and be happier) if you go to a program where you feel comfortable and will thrive in. One of things that a match list can help indicate are areas of particular strength or areas of resident interest in a particular program. One caveat is that interests of a class can change significantly each year and it helps to look back at a number of lists to truly have a sense of what residents tend to specialize in (and whether it fits your area(s) of focus).

It was great to see my fellow SAR's take an interest in a wide variety of specialties this year. For those who might be interested, below is this year's Penn match list. (As I am sure it is the case at very many IM programs) I feel very fortunate to work with such an intelligent and diverse group of people.

I know that I am an infrequent poster here but I would definitely like to help anyone who might have questions about Penn (and offer any help that I can about applying into IM in general). Best of luck to everyone applying this year!

What a horrible match list. I mean, Massachusetts General Hospital? Does that even have a university affiliation? Some guy who couldn't even spell John correctly? And public universities in California and Washington--what are you a farmer?

Yeah, but 2013 and 2012's Cardiology match is exactly the same, which makes me think they messed up the list on the site.

The only people who matched were the chiefs and instead of cardiology and GI as they had wanted, one matched to endocrinology in South Dakota and the other scrambled into a geriatrics spot in Northwest Idaho. geez no need to be so sarcastic. I have no doubt that ucsf residents match extremely well but i posted the question out of curiosity and not doubt.
