I just received acceptance of an abstract for a poster presentation. This is extremely applicable for a few programs especially due to the type of meeting it is for and location.

Should I email the residency coordinator with this information for those programs? What is the standard protocol for updating programs on information like this? Anybody know?

Bumping...can anyone tell me the best way to update these two programs?

My attending who wrote the abstract with me thinks I should absolutely let the programs know, but I'm not sure how to do this with appropriate etiquette. A simple email? A phone call to the residency coordinator?

The conference is a major conference, and it is especially applicable per location to two of the programs I am very interested in getting an interview from, and they have dispersed some interviews now, but so far I haven't gotten one. The rest of my stats are very good. It is possible that my very different location may cause them to think I wouldn't be serious about residency in their location, and that is not the truth. I actually have family in this city.

Any help?

Full disclosure - I didn't need to update anything last year when I interviewed, so take my advice with a grain of salt. If you feel this makes a significant difference to your application, I would just send the program a fairly formal but short email. They'll probably print it out and drop it in your file. Make sure you include the information you would put on a CV (e.g. title, authors, conference, dates).
