Hi everyone,

Applying this cycle. Unfortunately, my last MCAT was not as good as I'd hoped so I am retaking one on June 30th. The MCAT score will be released on August 1st. My GPA is 3.8 and I was wondering if it is a good idea to to

1) list only one school on central application and get verified. AND add all the other schools I want the central application sent to after I found out about my MCAT score

or

2) List all the schools at once and sent the applications anyways and get verified. As they will hold on to review my application until they receive and review my MCAT that I'd retaken.

Some people say list all of them since my GPA is pretty high, all the schools would like to see the MCAT and review the application. Some say that do not risk it since my previous MCAT score was pretty low. Some schools might reject it before they even see the retake?

What's your advice on this?

Please help! Appreciate it

There is no advantage to applying to more than one school. You can add additional schools to an application that will update within a business day.
You are correct in assuming that schools may screen you out when they see the first MCAT.

Hello, quick question. My MCAT is around the same time, but I'd like to get my app verified and start on secondaries that aren't screened. I'd apply to all in state schools and HBUs while waiting for MCAT. Do you suggest I also put one school and add the rest after my score is released? I figured I'd apply to all in state and HBU regardless of my score so may as well submit, but I don't know how they hold applications with no MCAT.

Thanks for your reply! Then which one school should I choose to get the application verified?
Far-fetched one as long as I can get the application verified because I know that they might reject me anyways?

There is no sense in applying to all those schools until you know your score. One is enough. Make it a throwaway.

I recommend applying to a school where the odds of you being rejected are 100% as your throwaway school, so that you do not burn any chances at schools where you have even the remotest possibility of being accepted before they have a chance to see your new MCAT score.

For the purposes of getting the verification ball rolling, apply to an out of state school that basically refuses to take any out of state residents if you are not from that state, like Mercer University in Georgia or the University of South Dakota.

This is very helpful! Thanks so much! This is exactly what I was looking for!

Loma Linda is a good one for the non-religious folks looking to do this.

So, after you get your application verified and get your MCAT score, how I do add the list of schools I want the applications sent on AMCAS? It's not like I can submit it again right?

You simply add them.

Cool. Might as well ask you another question if you don't mind.
So I volunteered to be a research assistant at a biology lab 25 hours a week. 2 months into it, one day, I was done with the lab work so I told him that I was working on the essay for the summer grant. Didn't realize that I didn't bring the draft so I started working on another gene map project that he had asked me to do. Not a big deal I wasn't lying about it. It was just that the communication was mixed up. He later shows up and says let's see the essay so I can proofread it. I told him that I hadn't been able to work on the essay so instead I worked on the gene map. He said that I lied to him and fired me the next day hahahaha

My question is do I still list this experience as the work/activity-it was a valuable experience for me though. I got to do gene mapping and dissections. But I don't want schools to contact this guy for reference and he ****s on me based on the encounter.

Please help!

You will need to list a contact for the activity...

I know that! But what are the changes that the school contacts him for the reference?
What are the chances that he says I can't be admitted to a medical school? I didn't lie!? he was just a crazy person.
It wasn't like I didn't do any job. I still worked on his project when I had a million other things to do. it was not fair for him to fire me like that I can't even list it as the work experience?!

Your fate could be in his hands.
You have to decide if it's worth the risk.

I think that for peace of mind I would not list it. 200 hours is a lot but it's not like it was 1000 hours. You want to be light and personal for any interviews without any monkeys on your back. But do you have other good hours of ecs to list?

I am also a little confused about the narrative. You worked on a draft and had one ready to show the professor just not on you that day?

I also don't know if experts on sdn would say that you are mandated to list the activity despite its outcome.....

Life's not fair.

It was a pure volunteer experience. That's why I was very upset when fired because I was studying for the MCAT at that time as well.
I carved that much time out of my schedule to help him and participate in his research only to find out that he just cut me out just like that lol

@gyngyn Does the MCAT retake auto fill into your AMCAS application?
