Hey guys!

I just got my AMCAS application verified today but I didn't even realize that I didn't list on the AMCAS app the two of pre-requirement courses I will be taking this Fall and next Spring. Some people say that AMCAS will not do anything or update the courses after app has been verified.

In terms of the change of these two courses(orgo) affecting my GPA is not an issue given that without them my GPA is still fine.

I just want to know how to update them after schools review my application. Do I mention this on secondary applications? or interview(if someone noticed that I didn't take orgo yet) or do I just send an email to each schools I've applied to that I still need to complete orgo for my requirement and update the grades with them separately?

Please help!!

Appreciate it

I'd chill about it. In general, schools check prereqs after interviews. No orgo might be noticeable, but it's assumed you will complete it anyways. Other can feel free to correct me, though.

I believe most schools verify with your official transcript before matriculation, BUT I do not know how schools that require certain credits BEFORE application will use that information. On the other hand, your fall courses would not count for that regardless.

That said, how did you take the MCAT without orgo? Have you taken biochem, yet?

For schools that accept them, you can include relevant completed courses and grades in an end-of-fall-term update letter. You could also mention the plan for relevant spring classes there.

In general, schools will expect you to be aware of their requirements and to have them complete prior to matriculation at their institution. Some schools you've been accepted to might call/email you in the spring and ask if that coursework is in progress. The school at which you plan to matriculate will require a final transcript that proves you have completed all required coursework with a reasonable GPA.

A few schools require them to be complete either before application or before January of the matriculation year. Hopefully, you read the fine print on their websites and didn't apply to them.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Yes I have taken Biochemistry. I self-studied organic chemistry and I loved it. Did well on MCAT.

Wow - very cool. The schools around here won't even let you take biochem without passing organic chemistry! The MCAT I took was very heavy on Organic Chemistry, but I still found biochem more important.

Just a note on two schools that have requirements before matriculation (and I may not be able to apply to) - Cornell requires prerequisites within 10 years of application, with at least a few courses within 5 years. All prerequisites must be taken before January 31. UNC Chapel Hill requires all prerequisites before application. I'll update this if I find any more schools.

Great! Thank you so much for the information. Very helpful! Cornell is definitely one of the schools on my list.

Thanks

Just talked with Cornell and they require both writing intensive classes within the past 10 years AND before January 31, 2018. Not just science prereqs.
