Updating Schools

How should we update schools on say publication submissions and new grades? Are official transcripts required ($10 per transcript at my school)?

I think you can call the office and ask them how to do it, but i think you can send them and email with the publication notification and maybe a pubmed number. with the grades you might be able to attach a webreport.

Yeah, just send a less expensive unofficial transcript, that's what I did and those were free, just photocopied them. The med school will generally trust you and if you're lying, they'll figure it out. Not to mention that when you're accepted you send them an official transcript from each institution you've gone to, then they'll definitely know.
Just send the cheap ones for now.

Word to the wise:

Date all update letters with the correct year. More specifically, don't date the letter January 3, 2004, drop it off at the post office, and then discover the mistake later that day. Yeesh, I really hope adcoms are as oblivious to the change in year as I was...

Do people update through email? How about both email and snail mail? I'm still waiting on my grades and I'm still trying to get interviews. Email would make it a much faster process so I can actually have a chance.

Should I update schools where I have interviews coming up or wait in case I get waitlisted (so I have something to say)?

I have been emailing my update letters. Majority of the schools replied saying that they have printed my letter and placed it in my file. It only took two days.

I called and asked the admissions office "what's best?" .... and they told me to use email.
