Hi everyone,

My AMCAS app has been submitted and verified. I listed the number of volunteer hours that I had at the time of submission - although I saw some SDN members suggest including "future hours," I felt this was a bit disingenuous since I didn't know how many more I'd be getting this summer. I didn't want to end up lying on my app!

I've accrued more hours in the interim, so many that I'd consider it a significant update (and improvement) to my application if they were included. I'd really like schools to know that I've committed more time to these ECs. My question for someone more knowledgeable: can I update schools on these hours, and if so, how? I know I can't edit my AMCAS app; can I inform schools through secondaries, or maybe emails? What do you think is preferred?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can let schools know through Secondaries if an appropriate prompt is given, like, "Is there any additional information you want the admissions committee to know?" or "What are your plans for the application year?" Some even have volunteer-specific questions.

Alternatively many schools allow update letters, some before and others, only after interviews. You'd have to read websites carefully or call the admissions office before sending these to be sure you follow each school's guidelines on this issue.

The third option would be to mention it during interviews, if it's relevant to a question asked.
