UPenn housing...Please Help
Started by brengy
Could any UPenn students comment on housing in Philly thank you so much.
I second that question. I would like to live near campus because it's convenient. What about you? I'm hoping its safe enough to, and also, do you think we need a car in philly?
I stayed with a friend who lived a complex called "The Hub" when I interviewed there. It's a really nice, modern apartment complex with studios, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom apartments. It's literally a 3-5 minute walk down the street from the dental school.

Any idea about the price range for a place like that?
Hey guys,
I don't remember seeing this site last year myself, but there's some great info here. In particular, check out the guide to off-campus housing towards the bottom of the page... absolutely massive amount of useful information in the comprehensive guide with lots of specific options.

I'm personally living in Chestnut Hall at 39th and Chestnut, which is really close by the school. PM me if you have any questions about this particular place, and I'll answer you between studying for my gross anatomy exam on Friday
Brief comments on some of the questions... I don't have a car, and definitely don't feel the need for one. On the other hand, I live really close to the school, and I'm kind of a hermit
Don't remember the price range for the Hub - check out the guide at the site above or contact them http://www.thehubonchestnut.com/
Getting roommates for dental school - what happened for us was that someone started a facebook page for our class, and I think a lot of people talked about living situation on there. I live by myself so I couldn't tell you too much about that.

My boyfriend is going to UPenn for engineering and he lives in an apartment close to 45th and Pine street. It is about 5 blocks from the dental school, about a 10-15minute walk. The apartment is $775 a month, including everything except electric. It's a one bedroom with separate kitchen and living area. You can find cheaper though, he kind of was forced to get it in a rush and couldn't look at many other places.
There's a lot of apartments in University city and it's pretty nice here. It's easy to get around by bike, bus, and subway so a car isn't necessary.
Look for apartments between 38th and 46th streets and between Market and Baltimore if you are looking in West Philly (University City). These are the nicer areas which are a decent distance from the school.
Living in center city/downtown is also an option if you like being close to everything you need (transportation, food, coffee, clubs, etc) and I will probably live there next year.
A word of advice: watch out for bed bugs! My boyfriend first got an apartment that had bed bugs and it was a nightmare,
don't let this happen to you!!
