UPENN interview invite...Should I go?

Hi everyone! I just recieved an interview invite to U Penn this week. I'm wondering if I should go. I still have UCLA and USC interviews scheduled. I'm from California. I've also interviewed at OHSU, UW, and Iowa (accepted at OHSU). Does anyone know if UPenn is full? Is it worth it to go? I know it's an ivy league school. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.😀😛😉

Well I guess it depends if you want to go to UPENN. If you would like to go there then I would go out and interview. That they are interviewing still tells me that they are not full yet. I don't think they would invite you to an interview if they were full or you didn't have a shot at getting in.

UPenn is probably not full yet. Corky always makes it a point to emphasize that they interview till March and whoever interviews is doing do so for an actual spot in their class. I agree with the above poster, go there if you are really considering UPenn. I was put off by the cost but after seeing the school, meeting some of the faculty and students, I was literally blown away. If you have the time and money, I would definitely go. Atleast 5 years from now you won't be saying to yourself..."Man I wish I had gone for that UPenn interview!"

Upenn only interviews people they are genuinely interested in, so going to the interview would be a good thing.

Yup, I'm from UofT. I called Corky on Monday and she said they had sent me an acceptance letter that very day. Needless to say, I felt weak in the knees and hit cloud nine. I was screaming YEAH BABY YEAH while Corky was on the phone. UPenn is an awesome school and I'm probably going to end up going there if all goes well.

I called Corky on Monday and she said they had sent me an acceptance letter that very day. Needless to say, I felt weak in the knees and hit cloud nine. I was screaming YEAH BABY YEAH while Corky was on the phone. UPenn is an awesome school and I'm probably going to end up going there if all goes well.

I actually e-mailed Corky and she said she sent my materials to my home address (fyi...im living on-campus), but nonetheless, I was feeling just like hassana4 after I read the e-mail. Whhhooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaa!!!

However, is it worth paying so much to go to UPENN? It's one of the most expensive dental schools, but yet, is it worth it? I've heard of their state-of-the-art simulations and clinics. But all I'm thinking is once a dentist, the money that they make will definately be able to pay off all the loans.

Any comments?😕

Dude, congrats on the interview! Most predents and even dental students will tell you that try going to the cheapest school. This has been hammered home over and over and over again. Moreover, another thing that has become more or less of a cliche is that every American dental school is accredited and will give you a very strong dental education. The school you go to is more of a preference. Im Canadian so my best shot was private schools. I have gotten into 2 private schools so far and am choosing to go to the cheaper one. You will be able to pay off your student loans regardless of where you choose to go. Thats just my take on it. Best of luck!

Actually, its not only predents and dental students.........its dentists, residents, program directors, the guy at H&R Block.......get the picture?

why the consensus? cause its a 150% accurate and should be common sense.

If you think cost should not play a major (if not the biggest) factor in choosing the school, because you think just because dentist's make a lot of money, you'll pay it off easier.....then you're immaturity and lack of life experience is showcasing at its best........

I'd try and talk to more people before making such a large decision based on the misinformation that you've been spouting

Guys take it easy! I understand going the cheaper route is common sense, it can't be more blatant than that...what also should be factored is your preference. Depending on which schools you have been accepted to, tuition and preference should be both taken into consideration since...come on...you will be going there for 4 years. It must be where you are compfortable. Money should be one big factor, but not the only factor. If every dental school gave you the best dental education, what's left is life experience while living there for 4 years and loan-repayment.

Sorry for making you guys fight, but loans will be taken out no matter which dental school you go to...may it be cheap or expensive, but you gotta make sure you are happy there. 🙂

just go...then you at least have it as a possibility. i'm from california also and decided on ucla over upenn, but if you don't get into ucla (or even usc for that matter) it wouldn't be a bad thing to end up at upenn (another great school...just far from home).

Penn is still actively interviewing. I just got an email asking for volunteers to eat lunch with interviewees for the next 2 months. The class is definitely NOT closed!

Definitely go. Like someone mentioned early, don't want to be regretting not at least checking it out. I doubt anyone in dental school now really regrets the money they "wasted" on interviewing at a school they ended up not going to.
