i have an interview at upenn on february 12th. i wanted to stay overnight and tour around philadelphia. i just called the school and asked if they could provide me with a parking permit, but they said no. i don't know where to stay and whether i should drive or take the public transportation in to the philly area. i live in north jersey, so it's about two hr drive to upenn. for those of you had an interview at upenn, how did you plan your itineraries?

i didn't stay overnight for my interview, but i did bring my car, and i parked in the huge parking garage on walnut st. and 40th st. it came out to be about $10 for the entire day, so you can park there if you want. if not, there are plenty of parking meters around campus.

you can stay at the sheraton hotel next to the campus...if not, there are tons of hotels/motels in downtown phillie, and it's just a few minute drive from campus.

you might want to consider doing a campus tour that is given everyday at 11 am/12 pm....and then drive around phillie afterwards...good luck!

I would suggest coming into Philly the night before. I think the school asks you to be here around 9, so you don't really want to risk being late if you're traveling that morning. The interviews are mostly done by around 2-3 as well, so you'll still have time to check out the city. I'd also take public transportation; unless you park your car past 41st street, you're going to be subject to parking tickets. But then again, if you're lucky, you can drive around 41-43 streets and the cross streets looking for a spot. (The dental school is right on 40th). If you do take public transportation, you can always leave your bag w/ the concierge in your hotel till you're ready to leave. I stayed in the Club Quarters hotel in center city for about $80. Penn gives you info about it in the interview packet. Regardless of if you drive or not, I would take public transportation to explore the city. Just make sure you have lots of singles cause the buses and subways are $2 unless you have tokens. Hope this helps!

BTW i'm a 2nd year at Penn...and procrastinating studying pathology...if you have any more questions let me know. good luck!

you have to be there at 845. ours started earlier because everyone was there by like 830. there's a parking garage at "fresh grocer" a block up from schattner center has an $11 special for the day (in before 9 AM, out before 7 PM). good luck.
