MD- but I'll always be a joisey girl at heart
So the only school I haven't heard anything from yet is UPenn, and when I called they said they were still processing my application, when my interview was Oct 8th! I read how some people were saying that adcoms say that over the phone if it's likely you've been rejected. That's fine, I don't care if I'm not accepted, I'm in at UMaryland, my other top choice, but I at least want to get some real confirmation in the mail. And at least 2 people have already heard since there are 2 acceptances in the acceptance thread, so it's not like UPenn hasn't contacted anybody. Am I being too impatient in thinking that I should have received SOMETHING at this point? Are there more people like me? Just curious!

Springhaze,
I'm in the same boat as you. I too have not heard from Penn and interviewed early as well. Hopefully we will hear soon!

Hey guys,
I dont know how rejection letters work here, but I do know I didnt get my acceptance letter until fri, even though it was mailed on the 1st (I am from Indiana so I dont know how far you guys are when it comes to the mail). But wait a few omre days I guess and call next week to see whats going on.

hey all. My UPenn acceptance with Dean's scholarship was post-marked Nov. 28 and I received it on Dec. 1. I think it is wierd that not many ppl have been notified of acceptance...maybe they have only notified those who got the scholarship....i dunno?

hey, I think you may have a point about notifying only the people who got scholarships. I got my package this past saturday and my friend got his on monday (he also got the dean's scholarship), I guess those scholarships are awarded to everyone, for a second there, I thought I was special 😉 , hang in there guys, I am sure you're going to hear back from Upenn soon and hopefully it will be good news for you!

i called on monday (even though corky told me not to) and they said they sent a letter out and i should receive it late this week. i interviewed in september too.

dmoney,
Unfortunatly those scholarships arent awarded to everyone this ear 20 people in our class got them out of 106, but i heard they are trying to up the number every year, so maybe 30 will get them in your class. I was notified on Dec 1st last year even though I didnt get the scholarship.

Oh yeah Congrats to all of you too! Hopefully Ill see you guys next year!

yea, i also received the scholarship and was notified on Dec. 1st. with a letter in the mail. At the interview they told me that the GPA cut off for the scholarship last year was about a 3.75...all the people on SDN that have reported getting a scholarship from Upenn have about a 3.9. What I don't understand is how they can give these $85,000 scholarships to 20 people every year and talk about raising the number they're going to award in future years...why don't they use the scholarship money and lower the cost of attendance for everyone...Upenn is one of the most expensive schools and I don't think that the facilities there are that much nicer than any of the schools i saw...it seems like the students attending Upenn without the scholarship are paying for the kids who are on the scholarship....just a thought...

Phew, thanks guys! I feel much better knowing that others are in the same boat and that only people getting scholarships have already heard (hehe, not that I wouldn't have minded a scholarship!)
kevin- so they didn't tell you over the phone then did they? I'm kind of hoping that maybe UPenn just is not one of those schools that would tell you over the phone even if you were accepted.
Keeping my fingers crossed!!

nope, they wouldn't tell me if i got in or not but i got a big envelope today if that helps!

I totally agree Deep and am kinda pissed off about it. But I guess some of that money comes from personal grants and estates in which the money has to be used a certain way, but def not all of it. The school says its their way of recruiting the "top students", so I guess the rest of us aren't just becuase our grades are little lower, or we decided to have a little more fun in college. But I guess all schools do that, thats why most schools have academic scholarships. Right not the facilities are ok, but the whole schools is being redone, unfortunalty very slowly. The new building opened last year, Pedo was just redone, and they are starting on ortho this spring, the back courtyard is supposed to be done by the spring. And they are planning on the perio clinic being done by next spring, so basically when me (Class of 2007) and you guys get into clinics most of them should be redone, except for main clinic, although it might be done for you guys, but I highly doubt it.

Has anyone else heard from UPENN besides the 4 people on the Acceptance Thread? I really want to go to UPENN and interviewed in October.

I've just gotten an acceptance packet from Penn and I interviewed in October. They might be sending them out in phases and it probably takes longer to get where it's going because they send you a ton of things in the packet. And no, no scholarship for this girlie. 😉 Hang in there - I'm sure you'll hear from them soon.
