😕 hello wonderful SDNites. My UPenn interview is November 10th. ALL the recommended hotels, (inn at penn and a bunch of others really close to the school) are filled up! I've never been to Philly and I dont want to book a scary hotel, dont wanna be ripped off by a cab driver. Anybody out there willing to give a sister some advice? I was so desperate, I contacted Upenn's international programs, they recommended sthg--cant remember Divine hotel ( i guess its a church owned thing) I was cool with all the rules except 1-- No pants/jeans for girls 😱 Cant do that, so i passed.
Basically what do I need?
1. Names of places nearby that are safe
2. If I will need to take public transportation, where to go and whatever specifics are ( i rememeber someone giving advice on an NYC thread about having the exact change for a bus ride or something).

Thanks a lot people. i know i'm asking a lot but i'm about to lose my mind! 😕

OMG. Like totally for sure.

Stay in Center City, take a cab from your hotel to the school. Easy. Done. The cab ride probably will be around $10. Center City is a very nice part of town. Unless you have time to spare and have a clue of where you are going or UPenn gives you very specific directions, I wouldn't really recommend taking the bus or subway as a new comer in Philly.

Every time I've taken a cab in Philly or NYC, there has been a meter running in the cab so they can't rip you off. Call a cab in the suburbs of New Jersey - now there is an instance where I definitely got ripped off.

did you try Holiday Inn in Mid-town, Walnut St?

I just checked it out. No room available for my dates. 🙁
Checked out Best Western Center City and Club Quarters among others. No luck.

If you can't find something in University City then the next best thing is Center City. Penn is really close to downtown and the cab ride will only be a few dollars and few minutes to the campus. If that is a no-go then stay at the airport, take the R1 train to University City (30th st. stop), get out, and walk up Spruce to the the dental school (it's ten small blocks - I can walk it in 15-20 minutes) or take a cab up from the station. If you need directions and so on PM me. Best of luck!

I have a upenn interview on nov 11th, and im staying with a friend that goes there. i suggest asking people if they are willing to house you for one day.

I agree with the previous post. Call up the dental school and see if any of the dental or med students will house you for the night.

I would call up the marriot at the airport, they were very helpful in finding me a room. That lady who reserves the room was very polite and was able to access other marriot sites around the area (fairfield inn by marriot, courtyard by marriot). I did this for a Temple Interview and I believe U Penn might even be closer to the airport than Temple, and I left for the interview 1 hr and 10 mins early and got there about 15 mins early. So just stay around the airport and there should be plenty of rooms around there.
