Anyone out there have info on the UPenn research track; where they add a year of research to your residency. Other than the Holman pathway, are there other programs that have (officially or not) similar setups?
Thank,

rk

Some programs, with permission, allows residents to spend up to one year of their 4 year residency doing research (ie. MDA), while I know that at least one other allows residents to take 1-2 years off to do research during residency if they were able to get their own funding (ie. Univ Wisconsin).

Stanford has a standard 10-months of elective that allow residents to do research. They also have a Kaplan fellowship for an aditional one year extension of funded research that is tagged on the end of the normal 4-yr residency.

Michigan and Harvard have a full one-year for reseach build into the 4 year residency.

The thing is, if during or at the end of your residency, you decide to spend an extra full-year just doing research -- I bet it would be easy at many academic programs to find funding. You can probably also do a "fellowship" -- which has funding and involves lots of research, but also has the added benefit of giving you something extra on your resume (i.e. I did a fellowship in so and so).
