Hello, I tried to look for National Board Exam statistics for PENN. I looked in their website and all the handouts they gave me. For some strange reasons, I can't seem to locate their stats anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find this information? Also, my top three choices are PENN, TUFTS, and MCG. I am gathering all the information pertaining to each school to evaluate and to help me decide where I should go. Can you provide any feedbacks on these schools? I need to decide soon as PENN's and TUFT's deposits are due in next 10 days or so. THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance.

I will assume Penn's to be better...MCG will be loads cheaper though

i was in that same position (minus tufts) I would choose MCG over Penn...Cost is a major factor and the boards (if that is all you are concerned about) is a function of how much work you want to put in.

Penn will expose you to more specialty areas whereas MCG really focuses on general dentistry

if you are gonna spend a fortune on a private school, it better be ivy league. so forget about tufts and bu. now we're down to 2: Penn and MCG. ifi were you, i would chose MCG over Penn. no matter what the board scores are, i'd chose MCG.

let's assume that the class average for part one score is 90 for Penn and that it is 85 for MCG. you'd think that Penn is better. however, if you actually attend penn, there wont be a guarantee that you will score a 90 or more. same with MCG. if you attend, that does not mean that your score will be below 90. it may be 95 whether you are at penn or mcg. it all depends on what you wanna do after graduation and what you're willing to put into it while you prepare for part one as a D1 and D2 student.

conclusion:

go to MCG

So first, you state that if you are going to spend money on private education, the school should be ivy league, because a school like Tufts wouldnt be worth it. Basically, PENN will give you an advantage over Tufts.

Then, you spend the next paragraph contradicting yourself by saying that PENN and MCG are essentially the same in that your future basically depends on "what you're willing to put into it while you prepare for part one as a D1 and D2 student". If thats the case, why take Tufts out of the equation?

I agree that the cheaper school should be the way to go, but you shouldnt discount Tufts because its not "ivy".

rezdawg,

i said penn is worth the money more than tufts and bu (i think this made you feel uneasy so used tufts as opposed to BU because you do not wanna appear self-serving in your post) not because penn provides a better education. i truly beleive the education is the same at penn, mcg, bu and tufts. the reason i think tufts and bu should be discounted is simply because they dont offer the ivy league name. so it's an ego thing. so i did not contradict myself at all.

affordability reigns supreme provided that the schools are comparable in their education. if money is not an issue, then ivies should be considered first because of name, before schools like tufts, bu, nyu, USC (private schools of this tier).

My point was just that a school being Ivy is basically meaningless. And you throwing BU in there has nothing to do with why I felt uneasy. I think Tufts is an awesome school and is right up there with Penn, even though it isnt considered Ivy. I know where BU stands in the ranks, so your comment didnt offend me in any way.

Personally I think the "name" of the school should be the last thing that you consider when thinking about where you should go. Nobody gives a damn where you went when you get out, as long as you are good at what you do. I mean yeah some schools are better at getting their students into specialty programs, but if you really want to specialize you can do it from anywhere if you work hard enough. I say go with the school that feels good to you, and don't worry about the school's reputation.

If you are not implying that people care about where you went to school, then why did you say ivies should be considered first because of name? Nobody is launching an attack on you, but your comments dont match up.

what I learned from this: don't mess with someone that has a 1000+ underneath their name...it means they are a master in SDN. Also, I'm pretty sure that polarnut was a kid in one of the ovaltine commercials. If not, we can always assume he at least consumed SOME ovaltine if he wants MORE of it. Unless he likes to store ovaltine w/o consuming it and is one of those peoples who asks for more before he finishes the first helping. Down with those sorts of people. I truely hope that you are not one of these, polarnut. By the way, what I would do is use the RANDINT function of your Texas Instrument calculator to choose what school to get into (just put in randInt (3,1) and it will choose one number at random between 1 and 3 when you hit enter). Assign each school a number and what ever number comes up...that's which one you go to.

I chose Penn over MCG partially because of it reputation among other dentist. The other part was that Penn had a better facility then Penn and Philly is a place I would not mind living for the next 4 years. I don’t think I could live in Augusta. And as one of the above posters said that at Penn you are exposed to more specialties unlike MCG that seems to focus on general dentistry more. Actually when I had interviewed one of the speakers had actually said that we make great "general dentist" and that they don’t have too many people that specialize. It was a hard decision and only time will tell if it was right.

go to penn who care about the money it's such an awesome school.

what the heck is wrong with you people. enough already....I DID NOT SAY THAT IVY LEAGUE EDUCATION IS BETTER. I DID NOT SAY THAT PEOPLE CARE ABOUT WHERE YOU WENT TO SCHOOL. I SPECIFICALLY SAID THAT "IT'S AN EGO THING".....knock it off already. i welcome debate and i agree to disagree with those who disagree with me. however, you guys need to read my posts carefully before launching your assault.

donkey, where the heck did i imply that people care about where you went to school. come on guys...read the post before replying to it.

Whoa there big guy, sorry if my post came off a little more harsh than I intended it to. I just felt that you were saying that if you were going to go to a pricey school then it would be better if it were an ivy leaguer, cause you are paying for the name. If I misunderstood you I'm sorry, that's just how you came off to me and apparently to Rezdawg too. The rest of my post was not directed at you, but rather at the original question asker guy, or whatever you call the dude who started the thread. I really didn't think I was launching an assault, but I can see how you might be a little defensive; It seems like you've been getting into it with other SDNer's on some other threads. Any way, from now on whenever you read my posts just read them in the voice of drugged out hippy and you'll be catch my vibe a little better.
All my love,
Donkey

Only if it's the same voice that pacifies the wild ass (c'mon guys, get your mind out of the gutter). Now that I've made you laugh, I'd like to thank you for keeping this thread civil. 😉
