Upenn (OOS) vs. Michigan (IS)

School 1: UPenn
OOS
Pros:
  • received 30k Dean scholarship per year
  • no ranking, so more collaborative environment and less competitive
  • like some of the student organizations that exist
  • easier to specialize since its an ivy?
Cons
  • no connections that already exist
  • definitely out of my comfort zone, since I have lived in Michigan all my life, wouldn't have a support system close by
  • not sure how safe Philly is compared to Ann Arbor

School 2: UMich
IS
Pros:
  • received 10k scholarship
  • have strong connections at the dental school since I went to undergrad there
Cons:
  • might be more difficult to specialize?
  • ranked so more competitive?
  • not sure if I want to spend another 4 years in Ann Arbor
Summary: Honestly I am really torn between both since they are both great schools. The cost of attendance basically works out to be the same in both places, so thats not a factor at all. End of the day, I want to go to a school where I hope I can form strong faculty connections easier and be able to specialize without having to work for a couple years if possible. I don't really know anyone at either schools so any and all input would be greatly appreciated!

don't look at tuition
look at total cost of attendance

and philly is a s-hole
not sure about the upenn area though...

I think both schools had significant clinic renovations. You know what living in Ann Arbor is like, so the question is whether you can adjust to Center City (UPenn area). Definitely more to do in Philly... and you will see more "underserved" in a true urban sense. Not worried about your Michigan connections as long as you keep them up.
