I am staying in downtown Pittsburgh because I want to see more of the city since I have never been there and it could be my home for next 4 years but the email said there's a LOT of morning traffic.

Google maps says to use forbes st to get to the school that morning, is this a congested street or should i try to use the highway? anyone familiar with pittsburgh morning traffic please pm me or suggest a good morning route 🙂

Hey there I am from Pittsburgh. Yeah, morning traffic is pretty bad around downtown area and yes, you should take the highway to get to Pitt. Once you get into Oakland, you can pretty much get to the dental school, but it might still take some time since Oakland is super congested in the morning. I personally suggest taking the bus. A lot of busses will take you straight to Oakland area via Fifth ave. and just go up the hill and you'll find the dental school there. Let me know if you have more Qs.

thank you this helps! the highways nearby to the hotel are 376 or 579. Is one less crowded than the other? Also it looks like if I took 579 I would get off on probably one of the major roads like LibertyAve, Bigelow Blvs, or even Centre Ave? Any of this sound good or which one is the best considering I'm gonna be coming from downtown Pittsburgh?

thanks again!! 🙂

If you are going to be in downtown pittsburgh your best bet is to use the PAT Transit. Not sure where you are staying but take the trolley to fifth avenue and then take a bus.

Port Authority Transit System (PAT bus)

PAT is a publicly owned mass transit system operated by Port Authority of Allegheny County. Fares vary within a five-zone system extending in all directions from downtown to the outer suburbs. Basic fare is $1.75. Exact change is required. Transfers can be purchase for a quarter, and can be used for one connection in any direction within three hours of the time of purchase; pay as you enter on inbound trips toward downtown Pittsburgh, pay as you exit on outbound trips before 7:00 p.m. After 7:00 p.m., pay as you enter on all trips. Local buses numbered 71 (1, B, C, or D), 67 (A or F), or 61 (A, B, or C) come into Oakland and may be boarded along Fifth Avenue, downtown. For bus routes and times call (412)442-2000.
