Uploading Personal Statement

After uploading the personal statement on ERAS, how long does it take for it to become available to programs? I know people suggest to upload your LORs by September 1st because it can take up to two weeks for the letters to be uploaded, but does that apply to your PS too?

It's available immediately, but since ERAS hasn't opened for submission, the programs won't see it until you submit.

ON this note, is there a way people do it to avoid special characters messing up the formatting, or is this not really an issue? can i take it straight for word and copy/paste into eras?

You can, but it may mess up the formatting. Copy from Word, paste into Notepad. Then copy from Notepad, and paste into ERAS.

And if you're using TextEdit, don't forget to convert to plain text in the Format menu. The default is rich text.
