I'm a chem major currently taking upper division chemistry classes. I have only taken intro bio and cell bio at a CC before transferring. Do you think I should take upper/uni level bio classes such as genetics and biochem? I don't really want to and it would be inconvenient in my schedule, but I feel like I need to "prove" I can handle bio at the uni.... thoughts?

I'm taking the MCAT in August. Would a good score in BS be enough to not take more bio?

I know some schools require biochem, but I figured I'd just take it my last semester if accepted to any of those schools.

thanks

Doesn't matter, you don't need to prove that. Biochem is awesome though! And I do think it's helpful for the MCAT, but you can self-study what you need to know.

Have also heard that biochem is extremely helpful for the MCAT, so that might be worth looking into.

Yes, this is a great point. I'm pretty sure Hopkins requires it and apparently now some other schools do too.

Requires biochem? If accepted to a school that requires biochem, I would take it final semester.

I'm taking the mcat in 3 months, so if I were to take biochem it would be after I take the mcat anyways.

I'm just worried about being judged or at a disadvantage bc I only have two biology classes when i apply and they were from a CC.. But I'll be taking p-chem and quantum and inorganic so adding upper bio that I don't need for my major could stress my gpa.

You won't be penalized for not taking elective courses not required for med school. Just make sure your MCAT is high, and they won't have to question your mental capability.

When you say intro bio, i'm assuming you mean the 1 year of general biology that's a med school requirement?...

With that being said, i think that if you do well in your upper-level chems that will show that you can handle the tough courses in medical school.

Just make sure the medical schools you're applying to don't require upper division biology courses. If I remember correctly, a couple of the UC medical schools, for example, require one or two for admission.

Lebron James is the best athlete in the history of organized competition.

Blasphemy. You should be excommunicated from the church of sports. 😡

I mean College Biology I... along with cell bio for 8 total bio credits.
