I am a Neuroscience major and I'm trying to decide which upper level Bio, Chem, and Psych classes will be most appealing to pharm schools and most beneficial for me to take in my future preparations. I have two categories of classes to choose from and am planning to take a couple from each category but need some advice on which classes to choose.

Behaviorial:
Physiological Psychology
Comparative Psychology
Psychopharmacology
Cognitive Neuroscience
Animal Behavior

Cell/Systems:
General Endocrinology
Molecular Neuroscience
Developmental Biology (Embryology)
Neurophysiology
Neurochemistry

Any insight from anyone who has taken these classes or is familiar with them is welcome!

I took Physiological Psychology and it was very interesting. It combined the biological and behavioral effects of specific disease and the drug that is involved in treatment. The class went in detail about the physiology and different drugs associated with different diseases. Only bad side was that I ended up buying two expensive books, Physiology of Behavior and A Primer of Drug Action. I am not sure about the other classes. For me, it was one of the best class that I took (majored in Cell and Molecular Biology). have you thought about Abnormal Psycholgy?

In regards to the other section, I am not sure. But if I'm you, I would take General endocrinology or molecular Neuroscience.

definitely take endocrinology... it will help you out later
i would say ( i don't know for sure) that pharmacy schools don't care about psychology so i would lean more toward chemistry physiology etc...
i honestly think all of your cell system classes will come in handy at some point (perhaps not for an entire course but definitely systems)

IMO I would take Psychopharmacology and General Endocrinology. Those seem like they would help you the most, from a pre-pharm standpoint.

I would take Physiological Psych too because it goes into Brain systems and Nervous systems and is good, Biology wise. Psychopharmacology is a good class to take because it will go into the mechanisms of psych drugs. I took a similar class but it was called "Drugs and Behavior". Abnormal Psych (mentioned previously) was also very useful for me because it went through the different types of drugs used to treat different diseases like schizo, anxiety disorders, depression.. etc. Although psychology classes will never be as indepth as a straight biology or physiology class. From my experience, psych classes you will basically learn What drugs or classes of drugs are used to treat certain disease but you won't really learn Why and mechanisms of action. As for the other group, Endocrinology is probably good to take because hormones are such an integral part of the human body.! Goodluck!
