I was just wondering if anyone who interviewed at Upstate on Nov. 3rd heard anything yet. I was there that day, and I found out a couple of weeks ago that I got accepted. Everyone interviewing seemed really laid back and it was a good interview atmosphere. I was just wondering if any of you got in and if you were thinking about going. There's a good chance I'll end up there, so it's always good to make some connections going in. Congrats to everyone who's been getting accepted!

I have an interview at Upstate coming up and am wondering what you liked about the school. Thanks.

I interviewed on 10/27 and was accepted on 11/13.

Right now Upstate is my only acceptance. I got waitlisted at UB and Downstate and I interviewed at Stony Brook and still waiting to hear from them.

Upstate is probably my third choice behind UB and Stony Brook. What I like about all the SUNYs is the fact that you are going to get a good education without all the debt.

What I like about Upstate are the facilities and the setting. The hospital and the new anatomy lab are really nice.

What I don?t like about Upstate is the fact that you are sitting in lecture for most of the day. When I looked at the schedules for the first years they usually have lecture throughout the morning followed by lecture in the afternoon. Then depending on your schedule you may have your practice of medicine class and so you may not get out until 5 or so on some days. They also really don?t have any problem based group discussions and I don?t think they set you up with any clinical exposure in your first year. However with the hospital right there, you have plenty of opportunities to set things up with a physician on your own (if you have any time during the day). I really don?t like the traditional curriculums which have you sitting through a lot of lecture. I like curriculums that mix lecture with problem based group discussions and with clinical experience.

At UB you have lecture and anatomy only in the morning and then have problem based discussions twice a week in the afternoon. They also set you up with a physician and you shadow him/her one afternoon every two weeks.

I also don?t like the fact that at Upstate you don?t start anatomy until November.

Besides all that, I still think Upstate is a good school with a good price tag.

If that's the case, how come upstate is your third and not your first choice???

UB and Stony Brook are also SUNY schools and so they cost the same as Upstate.

I just like UB's and Stony Brook's curriculum better. That's all.

Has any 11/12 interviewee been accepted yet? Today is 3 weeks to the day.

Have you thought of calling the admissions department to see if they can tell you what interview weeks they are evaluating. I interviewed the week of Nov. 17th and am thinking of calling them next week.

Has anyone done that?

I also interviewed around that time. We'll be up for review this coming Wednesday.

Kashue,
Which school did you like best out the ones you interviewed at and do you have any opinion on SUNY Upstate?

Herp

Out of all my state schools, I absolutely loved SUNY: Stony Brook. Yet they still haven't gotton back to me and it's been about 6 weeks....

However, for the out of state schools/private:
Cleveland Clinic Lerner of Case Western was my favorite (still waiting but I just went up for review)

Upstate was great and will definately give you a solid medical education. Yet for me, I'm not sure if my wife and I can live there for 4 years... I'll probably go to the second look weekend tho if I have the good fortune of being accepted.

Kashue,

Did you call and find out. I believe they evaluate several interview weeks at a time so the week of the 17th should be up for review as well, I hope. I guess I should call next week.

Herp

I think so. The guy told me that they will be voting on the people who interviewed on the 10th and 12th, so hopefully, they'll get to you too!

Good Luck btw!

Apparently, the 11/12 crowd (myself included) were reviewed today.

I wouldn't have assumed that they would call the same day, but has anyone been called? I'm very enthusiastic and optimistic.
