Hi test day is tomorrow... the FRED conversion has just come to my attention. Can someone please give me a quick explanation of how this is different from the format on the Form 1 & 2 and Qbank? Is it something I need to orient myself to? How is it diff from the old version?
Thanks

I downloaded FRED from NBME's website (here), and it really isn't anything to worry about.

Download it and check it out if you'd like.

Basically you get to highlight text, strike-out text, make notes for each question, and mark items. Nothing complicated, though you might want to download it and run the tutorial if you want to see what it looks like.

This only works for PCs. The only computers I have access to within 25 miles of me (where I could download a program) are Macs... and with the test tomorrow, I can't drive to school and back.

I was just hoping someone could tell me if there's really a difference, and if so, how different FRED is from regular Prometric or from the qbank, cbssa, etc.

Thanks in advance,

It's hardly different at all. I doubt that I would have even noticed it was different if I hadn't heard that they were switching to a new delivery system. Don't stress yourself out and goodluck tomorrow.

It's intuitive. If you don't know, just take the exam and you'll be fine. Take an extra 5 minutes and fly through the tutorial at the testing center if you are really wanting to know.

Qbank uses the same FRED format that the real USMLE Step 1 does. I took my exam on June 17 and it looked almost exactly the same as the Qbank I had been practicing on. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Just be sure to download the tutorial and go through it before you go to the test center. It's worth the extra 15 minutes you'll get for not having to run through the tutorial at the test center.

If you have Qbank, try the "Step 1 Qbank Demo" that you see on the page after you log in. It is in FRED format. The rest of Qbank is in the old format, but it really isn't that different. Good luck.
