URGENT Hackensack Meridian vs. UVM Larner

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So tuition is tuition, COA is what you’re referring to when you take into account cost of living. Is cost of living being factored into both numbers you’ve presented, or only UVM’s? That’s important. If 67k and 90k/ year are the totals, the case could be made that Hackensack is worth saving the 100k for. If you only included COL in UVM and the COA’s are actually even, the easy answer is UVM imo.

Also, I’d be careful admitting those specialty interests to people. Seeing that you just listed the top 5 highest paying specialties, some people will tag you as in it for the money and it will rub them wrong. No judgement here, priorities differ from person to person, just letting you know how it is perceived.

UVM. Always better to go to an established school.

Plus Burlington, VT >>> NJ for students.

NJ has some of the highest taxes, highest rents, highest COLs in the country. I get that you’d be living at home, but sometimes it’s good to breakaway from home. If you wanted to live on your own, NJ would be much more cost prohibitive

Vermont weather isn’t that much worse than NJ to be honest. Yes, there is a bit more snow but temperature is more important imo.

Good luck with your choice.

So for UVM, I'm factoring in cost of living. Because I have familial support in Jersey I don't really have to worry about rent or food costs as much. The X factor that's not clear here is how much tuition at UVM will be once I establish residency in Vermont. Once I do so, I'll have to move to Connecticut, and I'm not sure how that will affect tuition (will I still get in-state tuition from Vermont?). CoA isn't my main concern here in any case. It's more about the ability to match into competitive residencies if I choose to pursue them down the line.

I appreciate the advice about what you're saying. I think it's a little silly to judge people for that, but I'll keep it in mind going forward nonetheless.
Ahhh got it, I missed the point of living at home the first time around. I think strictly in terms of matching competitively, UVM is your best bet. Although, totally still possible from Hackensack, it will probably just take more networking and work to find research.
