Hello! I got off the WL at FAU today and now am weighing this against Colorado, where I am currently committed. My long term goal is to match into IM in CA.
Colorado:
Pros:
- Strong reputation, T30
- 1-year preclinical (though I am sure about IM, so not sure how much of a pro this is)
- lots of matches in CA last year
Cons:
- I HATED denver. Honestly, just so soulless. Visited twice and just did not like.
- Seemed somewhat impersonal? Though students say it’s not? Admit day wasn’t overwhelmingly great
FAU:
Pros:
-Good match list, strong Step 2 scores. Hard to interpret stats school match list, but seemed like decent amount to CA?
- Amazing location. Would be a lot happier here, I think, though it’s hard to predict how much the impact of community and people I meet will be
-smaller class size, very involved faculty
Cons:
- fewer total matches in CA? Hard to interpret state school lists because I’m sure the vast majority wanted to match in FL
- worse reputation
Any advice would be appreciated! I’m meeting with the admissions team on Monday and will ask them this info then, too.
