Guys, I'm in a situation but there's a life line. Right now for my mid-term grade I'm failing Chem and Stats. But there is an option where I can drop one of the two and not have it affect my financial aid or there is an option where I can drop both but just pay $375.00 from my own money for next semester.

Should I drop Stats. / Chem? I'm scared that if my GPA comes to a 2.0 I'll get academically dismissed from school. But by dropping both, my GPA will be okay and I'm also at the mercy of the professors if they allow me to withdraw.

Please share your thoughts. Lastly Stats. isn't a pre-req right? So if I'm able to bump the F right now to like a passing C or better I'll be okay 'cause it's not a pre-req right??

Depends. Lots of schools require 2 semesters of college level math and stats is very often used to meet that requirement. That being said, if you drop stats you can always use a different math class. Regardless, stats is a math class and will go into you BCPM and so a low grade will affect your science gpa (by how much depends on how many other classes you have and how you did). Can't really say which, if any, course to drop, you have to know your own abilities. If possible only drop one as too many W's can look bad too. Then really do your best to ace the other class, there's still time to pull it off.

Stats isn't a pre-req right now but it could be within the next decade.

Protecting the gpa is pretty important. Whether it is worth >$300 of your own money is a question only you can answer given your circumstances. If you end up on academic probation (most likely for a <2.0 semester or quarter with dismissal only if you fail to rise above the 2.0 in the following term) you will have to report and explain this "Institutional action" on your med school application.

Please take a look at your life right now and figure out what is contributing to your poor performance. What needs to change? What can you change? Do you want to change? Do you need help with academic, physical or psychosocial issues that are impeding your success? Really look within yourself before you go further because a pair of Fs should be a wake-up call and just dropping and retaking may not address the underlying problem.

I agree with LizzyM. Honestly, if I were you, I would take my low mid-term grades as warning signs and bust my butt throughout the rest of the semester to raise them. If you don't think there is any way that you can bring them up, though, then I think it would definitely be worth your money to save your GPA. That is, if you are planning on applying to medical school. :luck: Good luck.

drop that ****. punch yourself. begin anew.

Drop them both, and start saving for next semester's lack of aid.

You have to save your GPA, regardless of how it looks, so unless you can reasonably say that you can pass either of those class, drop them both.

first bang your head against the wall and then think about dropping stats...😀

Yeah I would drop them, by the way Stats if taught by the mathematics department and not psych stat does count toward your prereqs instead of calculus at a lot of schools. I know for a fact it can be counted in Texas.

I wish I had protected my GPA early on in my undergraduate career, but what's done is done. If you have the choice, I would drop both if I had failing grades after the midterm. If I could only drop one then I would have to think about which one is more salvageable.
